Ariana Madix's brother Jeremy arrested for trafficking over 100 pounds of marijuana at Orlando Airport
ORLANDO, FLORIDA: Jeremy Madix, the younger brother of 'Vanderpump Rules' star Ariana Madix, was apprehended at Orlando International Airport while attempting to board a flight to Frankfurt, Germany.
The incident, which occurred on February 16, came to light when airport security agents discovered a significant amount of marijuana in Jeremy's luggage, according to court documents obtained by Page Six.
Jeremy Madix gets busted for trying to fly with significant amount of marijuana
Jeremy Madix, who has previously appeared on his sister Ariana Madix's reality show, was found in possession of two large suitcases—one soft Tumi bag and one hard Briggs and Riley case—both stuffed with vacuum-sealed bags of cannabis.
The drugs were identified by an agent who, drawing on his professional training and experience, recognized the leafy substance as marijuana. A subsequent field test confirmed it was cannabis.
Authorities reported that Jeremy's luggage contained a staggering 64 bags of marijuana, weighing approximately 76 pounds in total.
His travel companion, Jonah Ahad, was also found with 31 bags, amounting to around 37 pounds. Both men refused to answer investigators' questions without the presence of their attorneys.
Despite the discovery, neither Jeremy nor his friend was immediately taken into custody. It wasn't until May that Ahad was arrested, and Jeremy was later apprehended on July 10 at his residence in Oceanside, California.
He was subsequently extradited to Florida, where he remains in custody. As of the latest court filings on Wednesday, Jeremy is being held without bond, with his legal team petitioning for his release.
The charges against Jeremy are severe. He faces felony charges of marijuana trafficking, a crime that under Florida law carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a hefty fine of up to $200,000.
His attorneys have submitted multiple character letters from family and friends in his defense, attesting to his "good character."
Among the letters was one from Jeremy and Ariana’s mother, Tanya Madix, who described her son as a "wonderful, loving" individual who is "cherished and respected" by his peers.
However, notably absent from these letters was any statement from his famous sister, Ariana.
Ariana, who gained widespread media attention following her public breakup with Tom Sandoval, has been estranged from Jeremy. The siblings’ relationship took a hit after Jeremy embraced Sandoval at a party, an act that reportedly led to the fallout between the two.
Jeremy Madix's arrest sparks reactions across social media
As news of Jeremy Madix's arrest spread, the internet was quick to respond.
One user commented, "He never seemed that bright," while another quipped, "This guy has never watched To Catch A Smuggler."
The ridicule continued with a third user joking, "No doubt at court, his lawyer will stand up, and with a deadpan expression say 'My client pleads not guilty, as the 100lbs of weed was merely for recreational use only.'"
Another user wrote, "A 100lb suitcase? That had to go at check-in being weighed and extra charge. Dumb."
The criticism of Jeremy's actions was relentless, with one user stating, "How stupid can you be to try to fly with 100 lbs of pot? He must have been really stoned to come up with that idea!"
"Lock him up for stupidity," one person wrote, while another added, "These two must share a brain cell."
The general consensus seemed to be summed up by a final user who remarked, "Reality stars gonna be reality stars. Opportunists and not bright."
