Ashley Biden files for divorce from husband of 13 years, shares telling Instagram story about 'new life'

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA: Former President Joe Biden’s daughter, Ashley Biden, has filed for divorce from her husband, Dr Howard Krein, after more than 13 years of marriage.

Court records show the 44-year-old submitted the filing Monday in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.

On the same day she filed for divorce, Ashley Biden posted an Instagram Story, which she later deleted, featuring a photo of herself walking through a park and flashing a thumbs-up, set to Beyonce’s 'Freedom'.

She also reportedly posted a quote that read, “New life, new beginnings means new boundaries. New ways of being that won’t look or sound like they did before.”

In June 2012, Biden wed Krein, an otolaryngologist and plastic surgeon at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals in Philadelphia, during a ceremony in Greenville, Delaware.

The two were introduced by her late brother, Beau Biden, who died from cancer in 2015. After the ceremony, the couple moved into a $1.3 million home in Philadelphia.

The wedding reception was held at the Biden family’s lakeside home in Wilmington, where about 200 guests gathered for a backyard dinner.

At the time, Joe Biden was vice president and walked his youngest child down the aisle.

“I kept telling Ash, we’ve got to open up the church and practice walking up and down the aisle so I can handle it,” Joe told People ahead of the wedding.

Recalling seeing his daughter in a veil at her First Communion, he added, “I think to myself, aw, God, my little girl! This can’t have passed so quick.”

Ashley Biden spoke about her father’s involvement in her wedding when introducing him at the 2024 Democratic National Convention.

“At the time, my dad was vice president, but he was also that dad who literally set up the entire reception,” she said.

“He was riding around in his John Deere 4-wheeler, fixing the place settings, arranging the plants, and by the way, he was very emotional.”

Following Joe Biden’s decision to step aside from the 2024 presidential race after concerns about his mental fitness, she reflected on his support throughout her life.

“Joe Biden is the OG girl dad,” she said. “He told me I could be anything, and I could do anything.”

In her DNC remarks, she spoke of how both her father and mother, former first lady Jill Biden, valued women. “He wasn't just a girl dad. I could see that he valued and trusted women,” Ashley Biden said.
