Ashley Judd says Americans have made their mind against Joe Biden, asks President to end reelection bid
NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE: Ashley Judd has joined the voices urging President Joe Biden to step aside and allow another candidate to challenge Donald Trump in the upcoming November election.
The actress' call to action was published in an op-ed in USA Today on Friday, July 12, making her the second high-profile celebrity this week to raise questions against Biden's candidacy.
Ashley Judd reveals having personal connections with Donald Trump's supporters
In the op-ed, Ashley Judd, who is an outspoken advocate for reproductive rights and Joe Biden's campaign, revealed that some of her closest friends and family are supporters of Donald Trump.
She believes that their convictions, combined with Joe Biden's disastrous debate performance, indicate that the 81-year-old commander-in-chief is "incapable of countering Trump."
“The defense of our cherished rights and freedoms, the moral imperative that we do better by more people, and our bodies, cannot be left to voters who see and are frightened of the consequences of President Biden’s obvious limitations, or who are now not going to vote,” said Judd.
Ashley Judd says second Donald Trump presidency 'cannot be America's future'
Ashley Judd further highlighted Joe Biden's poor presidential debate performance on June 27 as a key reason for her stance and argued that a second Donald Trump presidency “cannot be America’s future.”
Despite the calls to quit the 2024 race, she acknowledged Biden's accomplishments during his presidency, particularly in job growth and American investment.
The activist expressed her concerns that a Trump reelection would bring “very real hurt” to millions of Americans.
“The Democratic Party must not delay in thanking President Biden and supporting a talented, robust Democrat to be our party’s nominee,” Judd said.
“We do not have another day for distraction or division among ourselves," she added in her op-ed written from rural Tennessee.
Judd observed that Americans seem to have made up their minds against Biden, “on top of the majority who love to vote for Donald Trump.”
Joe Biden's reelection campaign faces growing pressure to quit 2024 presidential race
Ashley Judd's Friday op-ed came just two days after actor George Clooney called on Joe Biden to step aside in The New York Times on Wednesday, July 10.
The Academy Award winner's statement has created significant ripples from Washington to Hollywood, signaling a potential shift in the political landscape.
Biden's shaky debate performance against Trump in Atlanta sparked concerns over his capability to serve another four-year term and led to several Democrats and donors calling on the president to withdraw from the race, according to The Hill.
