‘Bad ad for Ozempic’: Experts and fans slam celeb weight loss transformations at 2025 Golden Globes
BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA: The 2025 Golden Globe Awards became synonymous with Ozempics after multiple stars showed off remarkable physical transformation at the Sunday, January 5 event, reported the Daily Mail.
Ozempic is the brand name for the anti-diabetes compound semaglutide which has become popular among celebrities in recent days as a weight-loss drug.
Celebs who are suspected of using Ozempic
According to Bored Panda, some of the most popular names in Hollywood are rumored to be taking semaglutide, better known by their brand names Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro. They include the likes of Selena Gomez, Demi Moore, Nicole Kidman, Cynthia Erivo, and Ariana Grande.
The trend of slimmimg down observed among star accentuates thinner arms, sharper collarbones, and smaller cheeks. The use of semaglutide speeds up the transformation process, but does not provide the muscle tone and firmness that is gained through a slower exercise and diet-based approach.
Experts noticed tauter faces, thinner arms, and more pronounced collarbones in these stars at the Golden Globes and these aspects are highly suggestive features of weight loss.
While most of the celebs have not confirmed taking the drug, actress Kathy Bates has been open about it, stating that she initially took it as a medication for diabetes. The transformation of the 76-year-old has drawn the most attention at the event.
Selena Gomez also debuted a much petite frame, however, experts are not sure if the singer, who has been open about her ongoing battle with lupus, is taking a medicine like Ozempic.
Dr Dennis Schimpf, a board-certified plastic surgeon, speaking to DailyMail had to say that while Selena looked "definitely thin," she wasn't "wasting or gaunt, which is normally kind of the giveaway."
He said it would be hard to pinpoint if she were really on the drug because of her other medical problems and her starting weight is not heavy.
"I've read a few things about her and that she kind of adopted a more healthy lifestyle and exercises. A lot of times, it's not necessarily just one thing like the GLP treatment, but also kind of a combination of lifestyle as well as dietary habits," he observed about the newly engaged actress.
Experts share their opinions on actresses rumored to be on Ozempic bandwagon
Dietician Ana Reisdorf told the Daily Mail on the subject of celebrities appearing remarkably thinner at the Golden Globes, "I would not be surprised if most of the celebs at the Golden Globes were using GLP-1 to look their best for the show. GLP-1 is extremely effective for weight loss, even if you are already not overweight."
Plastic surgeon Dr Dennis Schimpf reportedly told the outlet that the lack of fat and looser skin seen on the likes of Demi Moore and Nicole Kidman were likely the result of the drug.
"The collarbones are very prominent, with no visible fat. That’s a clear sign she may have used a GLP-1 medication,” he shared about Moore.
Dr Schimpf noted that a pronounced clavicle is a solid 'giveaway' that a star is using Ozempic or something similar. He shared, "The people who've lost dramatic weight, and especially with those weight loss drugs, it's almost like their head looks too big for their body."
Marlee Bruno, a board-certified physician assistant based in Florida and founder of a med spa that prescribes semaglutide, told DailyMail that while Kidman looked 'stunning,' her dress revealed a sign of rapid weight loss.
She said: "Her backless dress, which looked stunning, did reveal some loose skin. This loose skin could be due to aging, but it’s more likely a direct result of rapid weight loss from GLP-1 medication."
Kidman has not addressed any of the rumors about her weight loss or her using Ozempic.
Speaking of 'Wicked' co-stars Erivo and Grande, Dr Schimpf claimed that they exemplified the dangers of extreme weight loss, adding, "The subcutaneous fat that normally smooths out the bone is kind of lost, so it collapses."
Erivo, has not as yet addressed rumors of GLP-1 use but Dr Schimpf said: "She looked dramatically different in her chest and shoulders and than she had in the past."
Erivo, he said, had lost a significant amount of subcutaneous fat, or fat that lays directly under the skin. While losing excess fat may be beneficial for most aesthetically, it starts to look worse after a certain point, he insisted.
Internet speculates celebs are on weight loss drugs
Netizens reacting to the appearance of celebs at the Golden Globes insisted that Ozempic was responsible for their noticeable transformation. The following tweets demonstrate their takes.
"The Golden Globes looks like a bad ad for Ozempic. I love the look of thin women but man, this isn’t it," wrote a user.

"As the general populace is becoming thinner due to Ozempic and its chums, celebs feel compelled to be even skinnier still. There were more visible skeletons at the Golden Globes than Halloween," noted a fourth.
I think I’ve figured it out. As the general populace is becoming thinner due to Ozempic and its chums, celebs feel compelled to be even skinnier still. There were more visible skeletons at the Golden Globes than Halloween.
