Donald Trump's camp distances itself from Tony Hinchcliffe after 'garbage' joke

Donald Trump's campaign is trying to maintain its distance from comedian Tony Hinchcliffe after he made an unsavory joke about Puerto Rico at the former president's Madison Square Garden rally.

Hinchliffe’s speech included multiple controversial jokes that focused particularly on immigration, and Latino and Black voters.

In one such comment, Hinchcliffe compared Puerto Rico to a "floating pile of garbage" drawing some laughter but many gasps and groans from the Republican crowd, per Mediaite.

The comedian said, "I don’t know if you guys know this, but there is literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it’s called Puerto Rico?"

After the remarks, the Trump campaign tried to distance itself from the comedian’s comments, per Washington Post.

Senior campaign adviser Danielle Alvarez said in a statement, "This joke does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign."

Internet sides with Bad Bunny and slams Tony Hinchcliffe for his 'garbage' joke

A user wrote on X, "Bad Bunny boosted Kamala Harris' Puerto Rico pledge after a Trump rally joke about PR backfired."

Another added, "Bad Bunny with over 40M followers just endorsed VP Kamala Harris. This about to shake some s**t up!"

A person also stated, "Bad Bunny saw the clip of that comedian at that tr*mp rally and was like, bet."

Another mentioned, "Bad Bunny threw his endorsement Kamala Harris after that racist comedian said that bad joke."

A user also wrote, "Hi Tony We’re aware that you’re a comedian. But when you are a featured speaker at a campaign event, what you say reflects on the campaign. If no one from the campaign informed you of that, they screwed you royally."

Another remarked, "You’re not funny, Tony. You haven’t been for a long time."
