Bad Bunny hit with $16M lawsuit days before Super Bowl halftime show
SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA: Just days before Bad Bunny takes the stage at Levi’s Stadium for Super Bowl LX, the superstar is dealing with a massive $16 million lawsuit involving his music.
As the legal battle unfolds, Bunny is preparing for a performance he believes represents his entire culture.
Lawsuit filed in Puerto Rico against Bad Bunny
Earlier this month, a woman named Tainaly Y Serrano Rivera filed a lawsuit in San Juan seeking $16 million from Bad Bunny.
She claims that Bad Bunny used her voice in his songs without her permission or a signed contract. With the Super Bowl just around the corner, Bad Bunny and his team have remained silent and have not responded to the accusations.
The legal dispute stems from recordings that Serrano Rivera says she sent to producer Roberto J Rosado in 2018 via WhatsApp. She alleges that those recordings were used in the hit song Solo de Mí and the more recent track 'EoO' from the album Debí Tirar Más Fotos.
The lawsuit claims her voice was used not only on those releases but also during live concerts, all without her consent or any formal agreement.
Bad Bunny eyes Super Bowl halftime moment
Even with the $16 million scandal hanging over him, Bad Bunny is focused on performing at the Super Bowl. He previously shared his excitement about the show, saying, “What I’m feeling goes beyond myself…”
He described the performance as a win for his community, noting, “It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown.”
Despite the controversy, he added, “This is for my people, my culture and our history. Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el Halftime Show Del Super Bowl.”
Trump to skip game over ‘terrible’ performers
These legal and personal challenges come at a time when the artist is also facing heavy political criticism, most notably from President Donald Trump.
While the president attended last year’s game, he has ruled out a trip to Super Bowl LX, criticizing the NFL’s choice of Bad Bunny and Green Day as “terrible.” During an interview, Trump stated, “I’m anti-them. I think it’s a terrible choice.”
He went on to suggest the performers would only cause division, saying, “All it does is sow hatred. Terrible.” Despite the criticism, the National Football League has stood by its headliners, even as Trump said he is skipping the event because it is “just too far away.”
