Barry Keoghan makes rare remarks about 'pretty special' girlfriend Sabrina Carpenter amid breakup rumors
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Barry Keoghan recently praised his girlfriend, pop star Sabrina Carpenter, during an appearance on 'The Louis Theroux Podcast'.
The 'Saltburn' actor, 32, expressed his admiration for the 25-year-old singer and songwriter, praising her talent and strength. "Listen, all I'm going to say is I'm incredibly blessed. Such a strong, independent lady who's massively talented and yeah, pretty special," Keoghan said, gushing over their relationship.
Barry Keoghan and Sabrina Carpenter's low-key romance
According to the DailyMail, the couple, who began dating in late 2023, has kept their romance relatively low-key, avoiding much public attention despite being frequently in the spotlight.
Though they’ve yet to make a red-carpet debut, the two did attend the 2024 Met Gala together in May, marking It one of their rare public appearances as a couple.
Keoghan and Carpenter's relationship also plays out in Sabrina’s music. For her 'Please Please Please' music video, which was released in June, Carpenter cast Keoghan as her onscreen love interest.
Discussing the decision on 'CBS Sunday Morning', Carpenter revealed, "I, genuinely — like, a not-even-biased opinion — was like, 'Who's the greatest actor that I can find for this music video?' And he was next to me in a chair."
Keoghan’s enthusiastic response to the role proved that their chemistry extends beyond the music video. The song is the second single from her album titled 'Short n' Sweet', and fans have speculated that some of the lyrics may reference her relationship with Keoghan.
When asked if the 'Batman' actor enjoys her music, the singer confirmed, "He likes the song, which is great. He's a fan of the song."
Sabrina Carpenter praises Barry Keoghan's acting talent
Sabrina Carpenter has also expressed her admiration for Barry Keoghan's acting. In August, she told Variety, "I don’t want to sound biased, but I think he’s one of the best actors of this generation."
She added that having him in her music video made the project "all the more special." Sabrina continued this sentiment in an interview with The Guardian, calling the experience of working with her boyfriend “one of the best experiences I’ve ever had."
While the couple has been careful to keep their relationship private, Carpenter has been candid about the challenges of dating in the public eye.
"It’s not what I signed up for, but I can’t really help when I was born," she admitted, before adding, "I want to be honest — I want to just write about what’s happening in my life as a 25-year-old girl. But it comes with the territory and I just have to be like…okay!"
Despite recent rumors of a breakup, the couple continues to enjoy a strong bond. Carpenter, who is currently on her 'Short n' Sweet Tour', has been busy performing across the US and is set to wrap the tour on November 15 in Los Angeles.
