Barry Keoghan's journey of acceptance
Speaking about the scars, Barry Keoghan explained, “I won’t go into how I got this scar but it felt right to show it with [photographer Rankin].”
He also wore a bracelet with the name "Debbie," in honor of his late mother, who died from a heroin overdose when he was 12.
The shoot also brought back memories of another scar, running the length of his arm, caused by necrotizing fasciitis, a life-threatening “flesh-eating disease” that almost cost him his arm.
The rare condition developed after an injury he sustained when hit with a bottle in a pub.
Barry Keoghan on navigating fatherhood amid criticism
Barry Keoghan, father to two-year-old Brando with ex-girlfriend Alyson Kierans, has faced public criticism since their split in mid-2023.
Trolls have labeled him a “deadbeat dad,” accusing him of being absent from his son’s life, according to Daily Mail.
The 'Saltburn' actor addressed the backlash directly, saying, “It’s just because I don’t post my child 24/7 or give the internet what they want. My son isn’t a talking point.”
“The audacity of some people, man. It sickens me… I’m just trying to make a living and create safety for my child," he added.
He reflected on how his childhood shaped his approach to parenting.
Raised in foster care after his mother’s struggles with addiction, Keoghan admitted, “Of course, [my childhood is] going to affect me being a father when I had no blueprint to take from."
"But I’m not an absent father,” he highlighted.

Keoghan often prays to his mother, whom he described as “beautiful, like six foot, with dark hair.”
Despite her addiction, he spoke of her with deep love, saying, “It caught her, it caught my uncle, and it caught my father as well.”
