NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: The director of 'Unstoppable' recently talked about working with Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck on the wrestling drama and bringing it to Toronto in the middle of their divorce.

In an interview with Variety, 'Unstoppable' director William Goldenberg explored whether there was any awkwardness between them on the sets, considering that Lopez is the lead actress and Affleck is a co-producer.

The 55-year-old songstress and 52-year-old Affleck might have split after just two years of marriage, but their professional relationship endures. This is evident as Lopez attended the Toronto Film Festival for the 'Unstoppable' premiere without Affleck.

The film 'Unstoppable' has been directed by William Goldenberg, who worked as Ben Affleck's editor on the 2012 film 'Argo' and the 2023 feature 'Air'.

Many directors have earned credits as editors; among them were Steven Soderbergh and Alfonso Cuaron. However, Goldenberg is a unique example of an A-list editor who switched to directing at the peak of his career.

Goldenberg, who won an Oscar for 'Argo', would soon find out if his mid-career risk paid off when his directing debut, 'Unstoppable', has its global premiere at the Toronto Film Festival on September 6.

In the lead-up to the 'Unstoppable' premiere, Affleck and Lopez declared their divorce. While Affleck was not anticipated to attend the premiere, Lopez walked the red carpet in a sideless gown by Tamara Ralph.

When asked if there was any awkwardness on the sets of his film, the director responded, "Not really."

Goldenberg said, "Everybody’s a professional, and that’s their own personal thing. I love them both. I mean, I know Ben better, but Jennifer was literally a dream to work with. She was incredible. And their personal life is their personal life."

'Unstoppable' tells the true tale of Anthony Robles, a professional wrestler who never let the fact that he was born without a right leg stop him from pursuing his goals.

In an attempt to resume working with Affleck, Amazon, the company that distributed 'Air', agreed to produce 'Unstoppable', with Matt Damon executive producing and Affleck producing.

The movie was produced by Artists Equity, which also produced 'Air,' with Affleck and Damon. Affleck's estranged spouse Lopez was cast as Anthony's mother.

'Unstoppable' director details Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's dynamic in their upcoming film

William Goldenberg said that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck were an irresistible combination when it comes to making movies.

'Unstoppable' director Goldenberg provided unprecedented insight into the chemistry between the former couple while filming their sports drama.

Speaking to Francesca Amiker of E! News, Goldenberg said that the 'On the Floor' hitmaker and Affleck maintained professionalism throughout the process of 'Unstoppable'.

Goldenberg stated at the September 6 Toronto International Film Festival premiere of 'Unstoppable', "It's always been about the movie and that's their personal business. We just kept it about the movie. We just kept her eye on the prize."

Furthermore, Goldenberg felt completely at ease collaborating with Affleck and Damon once more because of their prior experience with 'Air'.

"They were so supportive and so behind me. They never overstepped or did anything to interfere and they were just there behind me. They were incredible. They're professionals and they're great storytellers," Goldenberg said.

Eventually, Affleck and Lopez's two-year marriage came to an end in August when she filed for divorce, making the film one of their final joint ventures.

Affleck also skipped the film's TIFF premiere after the split. He decided to forego the red carpet event so that he could work in Los Angeles and spend more time with his children, Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12, and his ex-partner Jennifer Garner.
