Ben Affleck at Jennifer Lopez’s ‘mercy’ and can’t risk ‘upsetting’ her amid divorce process, says source

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ben Affleck is having a hard time over his impending divorce from Jennifer Lopez and is "basically" at the singer's "mercy" due to the lack of a prenuptial agreement.

The 'Let's Get Loud' singer filed for divorce from the 'Argo' actor on August 20 after two years of marriage without a prenuptial agreement or an attorney. However, a source claimed their lack of legal defense might start haunting them.

The divorce process itself could get messy because Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have a ton of money to split, including a $68 million property in Beverly Hills, and they did not sign a prenuptial agreement before getting married in Las Vegas in 2022.

However, the estranged couple have been engaged in a PR battle throughout their split, with Lopez seeming to be winning at the moment.

According to OK! Magazine, Affleck and Lopez would reportedly need to "play nice" in order to finalize their divorce because they do not have legal protection.

A source spilled to the outlet, "Because there’s no prenup, the divorce, and how smoothly it goes, is going to depend on them playing nice. Which means Ben’s got no choice but to try and be as civilized with Jennifer as possible."

Given the higher net worth of 'On the Floor' singer, the 'Air' star would therefore, need to act as civilized as possible.

The source noted that Affleck is "basically" at the "mercy" of Lopez and that if he "doesn’t behave the way she wants, she’ll sink her fangs in and make it all that much more miserable".

Affleck is apparently annoyed by the lengthy process, especially since he has "so many hot women" who want to date him. The insider said that Affleck's "biggest issue" with Lopez lies in what he believes to be her domineering attitude.

The insider added, "The frustration with that from his point of view is that he’s being held back from having fun and enjoying himself because he can’t risk p***ing Jennifer off."

"His big complaint in their marriage was how controlling she was, so you can just imagine how upsetting it is for him that she’s essentially still controlling him."

According to the insider, Ben Affleck truly "wants to rip the band-aid off and get out there and start having fun again" but he is holding himself back due to the divorce.

"He’s got so many hot women blowing up his phone but he’s gun shy because he can’t risk upsetting Jennifer. He’s fully aware it’s just playing into her hands, but what choice does he have right now," the source revealed.

According to the insider, if Affleck "does anything to trigger" the songstress, she might decide to "drag" the divorce proceedings, leaving the 'Gone Girl' actor in a "pretty trapped" predicament.

After spending the summer apart on different coasts, Lopez filed for divorce on August 20. According to the divorce papers, the singer stated that "irreconcilable differences" were the cause of the split.

The two did not get together even on important events like their second anniversary, Lopez's 55th birthday, and the Fourth of July holiday.
