Jennifer Lopez’s pals worry singer is using ‘alcohol as crutch’ to get over divorce from Ben Affleck

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jennifer Lopez's friends have expressed concern as the singer seems to be reportedly relying on alcohol to alleviate the agony of her divorce from Ben Affleck.

As Lopez, 55, recently appeared on her Instagram page gulping a glass of her Delola Margarita, rumors circulated that she "needed" the drink to get herself ready for the September 4 meeting with Affleck.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, 52, were engaged for two years before initially splitting up in 2004. They later reunited in 2021 and got married in July 2022. However, Lopez eventually filed for divorce from Affleck two years later, in August 2024.

According to insiders, Lopez's close circle is now gravely afraid she will fall into a dark emotional void following her recent divorce.

Speaking to Radar Online, the insider said, "The fact she needed booze in her belly before her latest meeting with Ben kind of says it all. She appears to be self-medicating and unable to handle the raw reality of this divorce without some type of pick-me-up."

"She used to only drink socially, but not it's a bigger part of her daily routine and the cocktails she mixes up are apparently lethally strong," they added.

Another insider noted, "Jennifer was not prepared for this breakup. She genuinely thought they would work through their troubles, but Ben just threw in the towel and walked. He's left her totally wrecked."

Since the launch of Lopez's cocktail brand in 2023, the singer has caused anxiety among those close to her, who are worried that her "social" drinking might develop into an unhealthy habit.

An insider said, "She's really struggling emotionally right now and the big worry among her friends is that she's using alcohol as a crutch."

"Jennifer's saying a few drinks to take the edge off is the least she deserves, which is a fair point – but it seems so out of character."

Some reports stated the 'Gone Girl' star had to "quit" his marriage because his "sobriety was at risk" due to the songstress' "glam lifestyle", despite Lopez being supposed to be "humiliated" at the split.

"The marriage was incredibly overwhelming – Jennifer lives a very glam lifestyle, and he was often faced with temptation," the insider added.

While Lopez might be able to appreciate the "occasional cocktail," insiders pointed out that for once addicts like Affleck, "there's no middle ground".

"It's really unhealthy for him to be around any kind of alcohol. And with Jennifer, the drinking came with parties, surrounded by fake people who treated him special because of his fame, which was a trigger for him," the source said.

Lopez faced significant criticism following the launch of her alcohol brand in 2023. Given her long-standing reputation as a teetotaler, critics denounced her endeavor as a "cash grab".

Since their split, Lopez has been planning to spill more tea, albeit it won't be quite as flattering as the passionate song 'Greatest Love Story Never Told', in which she wrote about her escapades in the bedroom with Affleck.

Speaking to In Touch Weekly, an insider spilled, "When things were good between them, Jennifer put Ben and his bedroom skills on a huge pedestal."

However, Lopez's perception of Affleck changed since their split.

"Her rose colored glasses are off and she’s telling people he was actually a pretty selfish and basic lover," the source added.

For the unversed, the 'Let’s Get Loud' singer included a passionate song about her and the 'Gone Girl' star getting cozy in the bedroom in her album 'This Is Me... Now: A Love Story'.

Aside from the explicit depiction of the couple's love lives, the song in its contemporary context includes more somber passages. One such passage describes how Lopez's "destiny" was for them to have "found each other twice in one lifetime".

The first source claimed Lopez is "so annoyed that she wrote all those sexy lyrics about him", adding she is "now ready to write a follow up, basically a break-up song, that will hit him where it hurts and put him on blast for all the ways he let her down, including in the bedroom".
