Ben Affleck reportedly 'taken aback' when Jennifer Lopez showed their private love letters to songwriters
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In the upcoming Amazon Prime documentary 'The Greatest Love Story Never Told', Jennifer Lopez is expected to share new details regarding her restored romance with Ben Affleck. It appears, however, that not everyone initially supported the initiative.
In a wide-ranging interview with Variety, published on Tuesday, February 13, the 54-year-old singer and actor talked extensively about her three-part multimedia project 'This Is Me … Now'. the sequel to her 2002 album 'This Is Me … Then'.
Beginning on February 16, the singer's ambitious self-financed endeavor tells a story about her own life that is both cinematic and musical.
The synopsis states: "Jennifer has created a narrative-driven, cinematic original which showcases her journey to love through her own eyes."
Ben Affleck reportedly 'taken aback' to find his love notes scattered around
According to Variety's Stephen Rodrick, the 'Jenny From the Block' singer's three-part project's topic is 'Lopez’s life as a serial romantic', and it will primarily focus on Lopez's husband, Ben Affleck.
The trailer for the musical Amazon original movie, which debuted last month, sparked controversy due to its disorganized storyline and plethora of celebrity cameos.
The 'On the Floor' singer was even seen riding on the back of Affleck's motorcycle as they crossed a body of water in the teaser's opening scene.
It turns out that the upcoming documentary 'The Greatest Love Story Never Told', which is scheduled for release on February 27, purports to be based on a collection of love letters Affleck penned for Lopez.
The 'Hustlers' actress dug up the love letters for the songwriters she had invited to her house and used them as inspiration for her record initially.
Affleck appears to be "taken aback" in a clip from the documentary, per Variety when he discovers his love letters for the songwriters littered around.
According to Rodrick, Lopez shared all of Affleck's love letters with her fellow artists to uplift them, and Affleck caught her in the act. "In the documentary, Affleck comes into the room and seems taken aback when he sees his letters being bandied about," Rodrick adds.
"He says to the camera, ‘I did really find the beauty and the poetry and the irony in the fact that it’s the greatest love story never told. If you’re making a record about it, that seems kind of like telling it'," he said.

Ben Affleck earlier revealed why he and JLo broke off their 2004 engagement
Ben Affleck previously stated that he and Lopez broke up their 2004 engagement in part because of their lack of privacy, which makes Lopez's present behavior even more surprising.
The 'Air' actor told Howard Stern in 2021 that "I would say [media attention] was about 50 percent [of what destroyed our relationship]," as reported by Bazaar.
Affleck exclaimed at the time: "The idea that people hate you and they hate you together and that being together is poison and ugly and toxic and the thing none of us want to be part of … And, ‘Who the f**k would want to have them to dinner?’ And, ‘What the f**k are they doing together?’"
In the Variety piece, Rodrick also says that Affleck seems to imply in the film that he is "grudgingly" supporting his wife's decision to make their private lives public, though he is not particularly delighted about it.
Rodrick writes: "In the documentary, Affleck says, ‘Things that are private I always felt are sacred and special because, in part, they’re private.’ He then delivers an understatement: ‘So this was something of an adjustment for me'."
