Ben Affleck’s daughter Violet cuts ties with Jennifer Lopez after feeling like 'pawn' in couple's divorce

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner’s daughter Violet Affleck has decided not to be in touch with her former step-mother Jennifer Lopez, an insider recently claimed. Her decision apparently stemmed from feeling like a “pawn” during the couple's high-profile divorce.

An insider recently told Daily Mail that the 19-year-old Yale University student, who made headlines last year by keeping in touch with her former stepmother, 55, reconsidered her stance recently as she has decided to sever all ties with the ‘Maid in Manhattan’ star. 

Though her connection with Lopez was apparent in the months leading to her father’s divorce from the singer, the source shared that in the meantime, Violet started questioning whether the ‘Jenny From The Block’ hitmaker had any ulterior motive behind keeping her close.

Jennifer Lopez surprised her fans by ending her fairy tale marriage to Ben Affleck when she filed for divorce from her Oscar-winner ex-husband on their second anniversary in August 2024. 

However, apart from the former couple’s waning romance, it was Affleck’s daughter who also raised eyebrows through her easy camaraderie with Lopez. 

After the ‘Gigli’ couple separated last year, Violet chose to spend time with Lopez during one of her stays in the Hamptons. Moreover, the singer's sister Lynda Lopez also paid a surprise visit to the teen at her Yale University campus.

At that time, several insiders were left confused by Violet's move to stay in touch with her soon-to-be ex-stepmother. However, as her father finalized his divorce from the ‘Hustlers’ actress in January this year, the source shared that Violet was left wondering whether she was a "pawn" in the couple's divorce.

Speaking to the outlet, the insider shared, “Violet felt like she was used as a pawn, so to speak, during her dad’s split from JLo.”

Though Garner was surprised by the sudden closeness, the insider spilled that she chose not to show it and supported her daughter’s decision to get close to the singer. 

“Jen supported her daughter getting close to the singer because she always puts her children first,” explained the source, before continuing, “But as the divorce loomed, the fact that Violet was hanging out with JLo and wearing her clothes was odd to the family. So too was Lynda Lopez visiting Violet at college.”

The insider added that the ‘Elektra’ actress let everything “slide” since she values Violet’s decision. “But Jen even let this slide because she wants Violet to be happy and respects that,” continued the source, before explaining, “As an adult, she can choose who to spend her time with even if Jen does not necessarily agree.”

Nevertheless, they explained that Violet reportedly chose to sever ties with Lopez of her own volition after watching her father Ben’s distress over the public split. 

The source added, “Over time, Violet started to see how upset her father was that their split was at the center of everything,” before adding, “Ben never said a word about JLo.”

“Violet is highly intelligent and will ultimately always be a daddy’s girl,” continued the source, before concluding, “This is why you do not see her on public outings with JLo anymore.”

Ben Affleck would 'drop everything' to ensure Jennifer Garner is OK

The latest reports about Violet Affleck cutting ties with Jennifer Lopez came at the heels of the news that Ben Affleck would "drop everything to make sure" that his ex-wife Jennifer Garner, with whom he finalized the divorce in 2018, is "OK" amid all the stress. 

Speaking to Daily Mail, a source shared, "Jen has been dedicating every waking hour to helping her friends who have lost everything in the fires," before adding, "She is helping her church, and she has been going non-stop." 

"She needs to take some time to relax, but that is not how Jen is–not when she is passionate about something," explained the source, before highlighting the effects of the Los Angeles fire on her, reported InStyle.

"The fires took a big toll on her, and she lost a friend. She has been out there every day volunteering her time," shared the source. 

They noted that while at this point, the 'Gone Girl' actor "is not super concerned" for his ex-wife's well-being, he would not hesitate to step up if the situation calls for it. They added that if the situation changes, "he would drop everything to make sure she's OK." 

Noting that he views Garner as "superwoman," the source shared, "She has saved him many times, and there is nothing in the world he would not do for her."
