Ben Stiller hailed as he presents Best Production Design award from malfunctioning Oscars 2025 stage

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ben Stiller pretended to be the victim of a stage mishap as part of a skit while appearing on stage as a presenter at the 97th Academy Awards on Sunday, March 2, reported the Daily Mail.

The 'Tropic Thunder' star, 59, was presenting the Oscar for Best Production Design at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles when he highlighted the importance of the craft through physical comedy.

The ceremony narrator, 'Parks And Recreation' star Nick Offerman, introduced Ben Stiller on stage. He had to introduce him twice since the actor failed to come on the stage the first time.

Being lifted onto the stage by an elevator from underneath, Stiller slowly came into the view of the audience. At that point, the machine started to malfunction.

Stuck and visible only from the waist up, the actor made the room burst with laughter as he began to announce the award he was presenting — Best Production Design.

"Production designers bring the visual world of screenplay to life," he noted. "It is a field where the slightest miscalculation can lose the trust of the audience and humiliate the performers onscreen," Stiller delivered in a deadpan manner while being stuck on the stage.

"Production designers plan meticulously, creating sketches that illustrate a film's mood and atmosphere," he continued as he was lifted further up.

"With their strong knowledge of colour theory and architecture, they handle everything from minor visual details to massive technical challenges, collaborating with directors significantly to impact the final image on screen making sure what you are seeing is exactly what the artists intended," Stiller rushed through in a single breath as the lift took him under the stage, from where he jumped to announce the nominees.

Viewers found Ben Stiller's Oscars 2025 skit hilarious and called it the "funniest moment of the night" on X (formerly Twitter).
