WASHINGTON, DC: Sen Bernie Sanders faced flak as he stormed out of an interview with ABC News after being asked if Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez should join the Senate.

'This Week' host Jonathan Karl was left stunned as the 83-year-old refused to answer the question, dismissing the line of questioning as "nonsense" during the interview on Sunday, March 23, according to the Daily Mail.

Bernie Sanders said, "Right now, we have, as I said, just a whole lot of people in the Congress. OK, Jonathan, thanks," then stood up and stormed out of the room.

He was heard saying off-screen, "You want to do nonsense, do nonsense!" according to the Daily Mail.

Meanwhile, host Karl urged the firebrand senator not to cut the interview short.

Sanders called the discussion "inside the beltway stuff" and added that there are bigger fish to fry than speculating about the future of the leadership in the Democratic Party, per the outlet.

Interestingly, Sanders conceded and allowed Karl to ask one last question, unrelated to Ocasio-Cortez, that focused on his political future.

Karl asked Sanders, "I want to ask you about your future. You ran for president twice, this is the biggest crowd you've ever seen. Are we going to see you run again? What's your future?"

However, Sanders ruled out the possibility that he would be in the picture of another presidential bid and added that he is old and tired.

At one point in the interview, Karl asked Sanders, "You said that the passage of this bill, the continuing resolution, was an 'absolute failure of Democratic leadership'. Who are you talking about?" referencing Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's decision to vote for a House GOP-led funding bill.

Sanders replied, "Well, Schumer is the leader of the party, and it should not have happened, period. No question about it."

Amid mounting backlash, Schumer said on NBC's 'Meet the Press' on Sunday that he would not step down and defended his vote to avoid giving President Donald Trump and Elon Musk more power by shutting down the government, per the outlet.

Internet slams Bernie Sanders as he storms out of ABC News interview

Several netizens slammed Bernie Sanders as he stormed out of an interview with ABC News' Jonathan Karl after being asked if Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez should join the Senate.

One wrote, "It makes no sense," and another added, "The real question here is why didn't he just answer the question..?"

A person said, "That was a bizarre reaction," whereas someone else quipped "The man’s late for Bingo, let him go."

"Struggles when he has to go off script," read another comment.

Comparing Sanders to Trump, one more wrote, "He storms out because he doesn’t like the question yet, Trump takes question after question, day after day!"

"Seems he doesn’t like AOC getting the credit for his rally. Then why was she there? Bernie appears to be feeling the burn," another person commented, referring to Sanders' "Fighting Oligarchy" tour.

"He probably finds her annoying," one more expressed.
