Beyonce opens up about ‘deeply personal’ hair journey, psoriasis struggles ahead of beauty line launch
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Beyonce is considered to be flawless by the Beyhive. However, the 'Renaissance' artist recently talked about a health issue that has been bothering her behind the scenes, shedding insight into her hair journey.
Speaking to Essence for their March/April cover story, Beyonce revealed that she suffers from psoriasis while promoting Cecred, her new hair care line that she claims was inspired by her own hair experience.
Inspired by her mother Tina Knowles-Lawson, Cecred is scheduled to debut on Tuesday, February 20. It will feature a range of products, including brushes, oils, shampoos, vitamins, and tools, per Independent.

Beyonce shares 'deeply personal journey' with hair
Beyonce's ambition to enter the beauty industry and provide her loyal fan base with products that blend hair science and traditional methods is a result of her own health journey.
Moreover, Beyonce asserted that the brand name was partly influenced by her previous psoriasis treatments.
In a recent Essence interview, released on Sunday, February 18, the diva stated: "I have many beautiful memories attached to my hair. The relationship we have with our hair is such a deeply personal journey."
"From spending my childhood in my mother’s salon to my father applying oil on my scalp to treat my psoriasis — these moments have been sacred to me," she continued, disclosing for the first time that she has psoriasis.
According to research by the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, psoriasis is an inflammatory illness that results in "scaly and inflamed" areas of skin.
The autoimmune disease results in an excess of skin cells being produced by the body, which creates scaly, itchy areas on the knees, elbows, scalp, and other parts of the body.
The 'Single Ladies' hitmaker, 42, went on: "The conversations and debates in the salons and barbershops create a sense of community for the people who look to it as a retreat from their everyday lives."
"For them, it’s a place to feel beautiful and vent, laugh, share secrets and pass down wisdom. It’s the most consistent community gathering we have. It’s so important that it’s a sanctuary."
The latest announcement was made following her husband Jay-Z's unexpected remarks at the Grammy Awards.
Beyonce's new hair brand Cecred inspired by her own struggles
Beyonce clarified that she purposefully chose the name of her new beauty brand to symbolize the sacredness of her hair, particularly in strengthening her relationship with her parents.
"So I took the end of my name, Ce, and made it the beginning of the word sacred to create Cecred," she explained.
"From my mother’s salon, daily rituals with my father, and years of experience in developing a hair care line, the journey has been just that: Cecred."

The 32-time Grammy winner initially hinted that she was developing a haircare line in 2023 when she unexpectedly released two country-inspired songs during last week's Super Bowl.
She discussed her Internet-shattering choice to chop her long hair into a pixie cut in 2013 in another section of the interview.
Pixie cut in 2013 was an act of rebellion
Beyonce signaled her readiness for a comeback after chopping off her long hair in favor of a chic pixie cut in 2013. Now, she's sharing the reasons behind her dramatic hairstyle change.
She recollected while speaking to Essence magazine: "I remember the day I decided to just cut all my hair off. I didn’t have a particular style in mind. It wasn’t an aesthetic choice, but it was a very big emotional transformation and metamorphosis that I was going through."
"I love how we associate a certain hairstyle with moments in our lives, like that short-hair moment," Beyonce added.

The pop star—who welcomed her and Jay-Z’s first child, daughter Blue Ivy, in January 2012—said, "Something about the liberation of becoming a mother made me want to just shed all of that."
"It was a physical representation of me shedding the expectations put upon me. I just wanted it off."
Beyonce explained "So much of my identity as a performer has been connected to flowing hair. Cutting my hair off was me rebelling against being this woman that society thinks I’m supposed to be," per Page Six.
