WASHINGTON, DC: In a bold move that quickly drew criticism, President Joe Biden's campaign released a video montage highlighting former President Donald Trump's awkward moments, as per The Daily Mail.

The video was intended to counter recent viral clips mocking Biden’s own public missteps, but the effort was met with widespread backlash, with many accusing the Biden team of desperation.

On Thursday, June 20, the Biden HQ X account shared a nearly 2.5-minute-long video featuring a compilation of Trump's confusing and awkward moments during his presidency. This move was a direct response to a series of viral videos depicting Biden, 81, appearing to freeze or wander away from world leaders during public events.

Trump, 78, has capitalized on these moments in recent campaign stops, mocking Biden for "not knowing where the hell he is." In an attempt to level the playing field, the Biden campaign presented clips of Trump leaving events prematurely, standing in place awkwardly, or waving to non-existent crowds.

One notable incident featured in the montage was from the 2018 G20 summit, where Trump wandered off, leaving Argentine President Mauricio Macri standing awkwardly.

Another clip showed Trump disembarking from Air Force One and walking away from the presidential limousine, seemingly searching for Marine One, before being redirected by an aide. These moments were intended to portray Trump as equally prone to confusion and missteps.

The 2024 presidential race has been characterized by a focus on the candidates' ages and their perceived competence. Biden, the oldest sitting president in US history, faces constant scrutiny over his age and mental abilities. Trump, if elected, would be the oldest person ever sworn in as president for a non-consecutive term.

Polling indicates that voters are more concerned about Biden's age than Trump's, a perception the Biden campaign hopes to shift by highlighting Trump’s own senior moments.

The timing of the video is significant, as the first general election debate between Biden and Trump is set to take place next week. The debate will provide both candidates with an opportunity to address these concerns directly and demonstrate their capabilities to the American public.

The reaction to the Biden campaign's video was swift and largely negative as social media users were quick to express their disdain.

One X user said, "This is the Biden campaign’s new strategy (started 1-2 weeks ago), trying to neutralize Biden’s age problem by projecting it on Trump. Anyone who works closely with Biden knows that Biden is working with maybe 20% of his usual brain capacity. This reeks of desperation."

While another remarked, "The polling must really suck if they're down to this in order to beat Trump. Those cheap fakes must be really kicking their butts." A third user wrote, "You can smell the desperation from the Biden camp…"

Another user posted, "Imagine lying to yourself that Trump’s actions and cognition in this video are even remotely similar to Biden‘s obvious decline."

One user commented, "The attempts to bring Trump down to Joe's level are epic failures. Keep gaslighting us, see how it goes for you." A sixth user mentioned, "Oof - not the strategy that you want to be going with. This only brings attention back to Biden - again."

Another user stated, "You're only hurting your own campaign. Go on, continue..." Lastly, a user said, "Everyone knows Trump is a strong leader. Nice try though."
