CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Former president Bill Clinton ripped into 45th president Donald Trump at the Democratic National Convention speech, questioning the relevance of the Republican's "endless tributes" to fictional villain Hannibal Lecter.

Addressing his audience on night three of the DNC in Chicago on Wednesday, August 21, the Democrat remarked that he "almost croaked" at Trump's assertion that the United States was more respected during his presidency.

"When you send a signal to other countries, you want them to know, whether they agree with you or not, at least that you're on the level. That here's where you are, what you believe," Clinton said as per Mediaite.

He then weighed in on the GOP presidential nominee's obsession with the cannibal serial killer Hannibal Lecter.

Bill Clinton questions Trump's 'endless tributes' to Hannibal Lecter

"What are they supposed to make to these endless tributes to the late, great Hannibal Lecter? Bill Clinton asked.

"I mean, president Obama once gave me the great honor of saying I was the explainer-in-chief. Folks, I've thought about it, and I don't know what to say," the 42nd president said, admitting he was unable to find an answer.

Hannibal Lecter was frequently mentioned in Trump's 2024 campaign trail. His repeated references to the fictional cannibal at his rallies even led to headlines like "Why is Donald Trump so Fixated on Hannibal Lecter?" and "Why is Donald Trump so obsessed with Hannibal Lecter?"

"The late, great Hannibal Lecter, he's a wonderful man," Trump said at one campaign rally. While during a Virginia rally in June, he said, "The press always says, 'Why does he ramble about Silence of the Lamb?' The late, great Hannibal Lecter. He'd like to have you over for dinner."

Speaking to supporters in North Carolina in July, the real estate mogul claimed that Hannibal Lecter's stories were "real."

Trump always refers to the cannibal villain about his claim that illegal immigrants entering the US were coming from "insane asylums," jails, and prisons.

In a July interview with Deadline, Sir Anthony Hopkins, who portrayed Hannibal Lecter in the 1991 film 'The Silence of the Lambs,' said he was "shocked and appalled" by Trump's reference to the villain.

The cannibalistic serial killer is the creation of novelist Thomas Harris, and it gained prominence after 'The Silence of the Lambs,' where Hopkins was the imprisoned character who wore the skins of the women he killed.

Internet ridicules Donald Trump as Bill Clinton criticizes his 'endless tributes' to Hannibal Lecter

Bill Clinton's criticism of Trump's obsessed "tributes to the late, great Hannibal Lecter," sparked mockery online targeting the MAGA spearhead. Some deemed it as a "delusional obsession," meanwhile others called it a "creepy joke."

"Bill Clinton makes Trump look like a dumb old guy," a user wrote.

"I’M SCREAMING!!! Two US Presidents dragging you back-to-back is something else. I love it," another remarked.

"Exactly!!!! The entire week has made fun of Donald Trump---because he's a stupid, clown," added a third user.

"Quite frankly, we think he’s off his rocker," read a fourth response.

"I mean, my first thought is broken-brained lunatic with a delusional obsession with Hannibal Lector," someone else said.

"Dementia =talking about the late great Hannibal Lector at your rallies," one user wrote on Facebook.

"Trump is one of those boomers who tells creepy jokes and thinks he's funny because everyone gives him an awkward laugh just to be nice to the stupid old creep," an individual commented below Mediaite's article.

"Trump has never laughed in his life. This is what he thinks jokes are. He genuinely doesn’t know," someone else chimed in.
