NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Bill Clinton's frail appearance at The Headstrong Project’s Annual Gala in New York City has sparked concerns about his well-being.

Guests noticed the former president wearing a Band-Aid on his nose and struggling to turn pages during his speech.

Clinton, 79, has a history of serious health issues, including a 2004 quadruple heart bypass, a stent insertion in 2010, and recent hospitalizations for infections and the flu. Here’s a closer look at his latest public appearance.

Bill Clinton trembles while turning pages of his speech

Bill Clinton appeared visibly frail while attending The Headstrong Project’s Annual Gala on Wednesday, October 22. He wore a Band-Aid on his nose, trembled as he turned the pages of his speech, and paused uncomfortably at least once.

While the reason for the Band-Aid remains unclear, Clinton has previously received treatment for a pre-cancerous lesion on the same spot.

The former president spoke in a low, halting voice as he presented the Moral Courage Award to former Navy SEAL Frank Larkin, who had once served on Clinton’s security detail. An attendee told the Daily Mail, “It was a bit sad to watch."

The room went dead silent because his voice was low and he spoke slowly, so everyone wanted to hear him.

Before handing Frank Larkin the award, Bill Clinton recalled how he and his security team used to run “25 miles a week.”

“Back before I was so ancient, I used to run about 20-25 miles a week when I was in the White House in my first turn, Larkin would run with me. And as you'll see, he's now and back then, a lot fitter than I did, but I still get out there and pound the pavement,” Clinton said.

He praised Larkin’s career, saying, “And I admired that he was a Navy SEAL. I admired that after he got out of the Navy, he went into the Secret Service and did a whole lot of other things that were important.”

Clinton also reminisced about the past, when both he and Larkin were “young and pretty.” Larkin’s son, Ryan, a former Navy SEAL, died by suicide in 2017, and Larkin has since devoted his life to reducing the stigma around seeking mental health support in honor of his late son.

Bill Clinton's gala appearance sparks concern online

Bill Clinton’s appearance at the gala has sparked widespread online concern over his trembling.

One Daily Mail user suspected, “Late stage Acquired ImmunoDeficiency Syndrome?” A follower of Clinton said, “The last time I heard him speak on tv, which was probably 3 years ago, though he showed signs of Parkinson’s.”

Another commenter wrote, “I remember he had some kind of heart problem and then he became a vegan and lost a lost of weight. He does look a lot more frail.”

One more commenter advised, “Needs to start weightlifting. Get his strength and muscle back.”

A user wished, “I wish Mr. Bill Clinton well.”

Bill Clinton suffered a heart attack in 2004 that required a quadruple bypass, narrowly avoiding a major cardiac event due to nearly complete artery blockages.

In 2010, he experienced chest discomfort and returned to the same New York hospital, where doctors inserted a stent.

Last year, he was hospitalized at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC, after developing a fever and was discharged on Christmas Eve following flu treatment. He also faced a serious health scare in 2021 when a urological infection spread to his bloodstream.

Concerns about his health resurfaced in August when he was photographed carrying a defibrillator while leaving the Hamptons with his wife, Hillary Clinton.

Recently, the couple has drawn media attention after House Republicans subpoenaed them to testify about his ties to Jeffrey Epstein. Although they were scheduled to appear earlier this month, neither attended their original dates. A source said that the Clintons are negotiating new dates with their attorneys, keeping the possibility of testimony open.
