Bill Maher slams Trump for celebrating Easter by ‘locking up guys named Jesus’ just days after WH dinner

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Bill Maher took a jibe at President Donald Trump and his administration by saying that he is celebrating Easter "by locking up guys named Jesus," just days after fawning over their White House dinner.
In March, Maher grabbed headlines for his dinner with the president at the White House. Following his meeting with the POTUS, Maher found Trump's persona in real life quite different from what he sees on television, according to Fox News.
Bill Maher rips Donald Trump for celebrating Easter by ‘locking up guys named Jesus’
Bill Maher opened his monologue with a nod to Good Friday and said, "It’s Good Friday, and this is the day Jesus died for all of our sins. So you know what? Have fun. It’s all paid for. You’re playing with the house money."
While discussing the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), he said, "One of the things that DOGE has done it’s kind of gutted the IRS. Oh, you know, you’re not. If you don’t have it, don’t worry about it."

Maher continued, "Yeah. I mean, I’ll say this, a lot of the things Trump does are really pandering to the base, but letting tax cheats not have to worry about getting audited? That one came from the heart."
Maher turned his focus to Easter while joking about the rising cost of eggs in the US.
He said, "I don’t want to say the economy is going into the sh*****, but people are dying, dying—yeah, they’re dying too, but dying potatoes for Easter because eggs are too expensive. This sounds like something my Irish relative did after they s*** in the hole and slept in the mud."

Maher continued, "So yes, we’re dying potatoes. People are dying overseas because we cut overseas aid. They say… we’re going into a recession, we have a constitutional crisis. Today, Melania had a jacket that said, 'I’m starting to care.'"
"It’s Easter. It’s Easter on Sunday. Are you excited about that? Oh, my God, my favorite holiday on the Christian [calendar], the day when we celebrate Jesus being resurrected from the dead. Or, as Elon Musk sees it, an elaborate scheme to defraud Social Security," he continued.
The talk show host then took a jibe at the POTUS' immigrant policies and said, "Very big day at the White House. Trump is honoring the day by locking up guys named Jesus," before adding the president had also "pardoned Pontius Pilate."
He also took a subtle jab at Vice President JD Vance and said, "JD Vance, our vice president, He’s in Rome. You know, he’s a convert, a recent convert to Catholicism. I know it’s married to a Hindu, goes right to the Catholics. I don’t know what that says, but I think that he can run into because he heard priests like little prick."

Maher added, "JD is over there. He wants to get in to see the Pope. It’s not sure he’s gone on to, but he’d like to get in there to convince him that Jesus was dead wrong about being nice to foreigners."
Bill Maher on dinner with Donald Trump at White House
This comes just days after Bill Maher gushed about his dinner with Donald Trump at the White House. He acknowledged the irony of meeting Trump and compared it to Richard Nixon’s groundbreaking visit to China in 1972, Mediaite reported.
During an appearance on 'The Chris Cuomo Project' podcast, Maher discussed his dinner with Trump.
He shared with Cuomo that he would soon be heading to the White House for the meal, an arrangement made possible by musician Kid Rock, framing it as an opportunity for unity in a deeply divided America.
He said, "Now, I don’t have some sort of complex where I think I can heal America, I can’t. Okay, let’s get that clear. I’m not going to be healing America."
He told Cuomo, "There was nobody harder on Trump. But if two guys who’ve been at each other for so long, I mean, it’s kind of a Nixon to China thing. I have the credentials. There was nobody who was harder on Trump or more prescient about the fact that he wasn’t going to leave office voluntarily than I was."

Following his meeting with Trump, Maher revealed that he found Trump's persona in real life quite different from what he sees on television.
In a lengthy monologue on the April 11 episode of 'Real Time With Bill Maher', Maher said, "You can hate me for it, but I'm not a liar. Trump was gracious and measured. And why isn't that in other settings — I don't know, and I can't answer, and it's not my place to answer. I'm just telling you what I saw, and I wasn't high."
"I have no power. I'm a f**king comedian, and he's the most powerful leader in the world! I'm not the leader of anything, except maybe a contingent of centrist-minded people who think there's got to be a better way of running this country than hating each other every minute," he added.
