Blake Lively slammed for turning domestic violence question into 'joke' during 'It Ends With Us' interview
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Blake Lively has drawn significant criticism for her response to a serious question about domestic violence during a recent interview for her film 'It Ends With Us.'
The movie, based on Colleen Hoover's novel, tackles the difficult subject of abusive relationships and has sparked discussions about its portrayal of such sensitive issues, as reported by The Daily Mail.
Blake Lively under fire for 'insensitive' response to domestic violence query
During a virtual interview with Emmy award-winning journalist Jake Hamilton, Lively, alongside her co-star Brandon Sklenar, was asked how individuals who relate to the film's themes should approach her if they wanted to discuss their personal experiences.
Rather than offering a supportive or informative response, Lively responded sarcastically, suggesting that people could just ask for her address or phone number.
"For people who see this movie and relate to the topics of this movie on a deeply personal level, they're really going to want to talk to you," Jake said. "This movie is going to affect people and they're going to want to tell you about their life."
"So if someone understands the themes of this movie and comes across you in public and they want to really talk to you, what's the best way for them to be able to talk to you about this? How would you recommend they go about it?" he asked.
Blake appeared uninterested in the idea of people approaching her to discuss the intense and distressing themes portrayed in the film.
With a touch of sarcasm, she responded, “Ask for my address or my phone number."
"Or I could just share my location with you and then we could...," she trailed off before bursting into laughter.
Blake mentioned that most people are familiar with "at least" one person usually "more than one," who had "experienced" a toxic relationship. However, she found it particularly "beautiful" that the film resonated with people, even those who haven’t personally encountered such experiences.
"The story is told with such empathy that I feel like this movie can be healing," she added.
"It can be a cautionary tale and it can be inspiring. The movie itself and Colleen's work itself do that work. If anyone ever comes up to you and says that your work meant something to them outside of just having that collective experience in a theater where you laugh and cry and feel together, what a blessing."
"The fact that we get to do this and it gets to mean something is significant."
Her comments were met with widespread disapproval online, with many viewing them as a flippant dismissal of the serious nature of the film's subject matter.
Blake Lively slammed over dismissive response to domestic violence question
Black Lively's response was seen as undermining the importance of providing real support and resources to domestic violence survivors.
Critics have taken to social media to express their disappointment, accusing the actress of trivializing the experiences of those who might relate to the film’s depiction of abusive relationships.
The backlash has reignited debates about celebrity responsibility in addressing serious social issues and the importance of sensitivity in public discourse.
Internet was quick to voice their disapproval on social media, with many accusing Lively of undermining the importance of providing support to domestic violence survivors.
One user expressed their dismay, writing, “A major ick. Finally seeing who Blake Lively is as an individual, and it’s ugly. She might as well have said not to go up to her or talk to her.” [sic]

Another wrote, “Bruh, me too, I was so gagged; I cannot stan her any longer. I have no direct experience with DV nor am I educated on the topic. I am so, so, SO lucky nor I nor anyone I know has experienced it, and yet even I am hurting at her dismissive answers to such a real issue like DV.” [sic]
If you've been through DV and believe that you can talk to Blake about this, you desperately need help. Seriously, get yourself to a hospital right now.
