LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Shiloh Jolie-Pitt has decided to take legal action to legally drop her father's surname by hiring her own attorney, amid the ongoing legal battle between her mother Angelina Jolie, and estranged father Brad Pitt.

According to a source, Shiloh, 18, has reportedly submitted a formal request to change her name to 'Shiloh Jolie', hired her own attorney, and paid for the filing herself, which means Angelina is not aware of or involved in the process.

Her request to change her name was filed on May 27, which is her 18th birthday and the day she became a legally recognized adult, per the paperwork.

Shiloh decided to take the step after her sister Vivienne removed her last name. Brad and Angelina are also co-parents of Maddox, 22, twins Vivienne and Knox, 15, Zahara, 19, and Pax, 20.

Shiloh Jolie-Pitt took it upon herself to change her last name

Although there had been rumors that Shiloh was going to move in with her father Brad, she took the step—joining her siblings Zahara and Vivienne in removing "Pitt" from their last names.

A source with knowledge of the recent situation told Daily Mail: "Shiloh hired her own lawyer and paid for it herself, so Angie doesn’t know and can’t speak for it."

"But, if you’re asking if this is connected to the abuse history or the violation of Shiloh’s victims rights, yes, that’s part of it," the source added.

Shiloh turned 18 on Monday, May 27, and filed the necessary paperwork to change her name.

The disclosure that Shiloh paid for it herself raises the possibility that the nasty feud between Brad, 60, and Angelina, 48, could continue in the form of lawsuits brought by the six kids they formerly shared.

Shiloh's sibling Vivienne was given credit as "Vivienne Jolie" in a Broadway musical that Angelina co-produced, while another sister Zahara introduced herself as "Zahara Marley Jolie" at a Spelman College function, per People.

Angelina Jolie blamed for escalating rift between her daughter and Brad Pitt

Brad and Angelina married in 2014 after beginning a relationship in 2005. However, their marriage ended in 2016 when Angelina filed for divorce.

Since then, they have been embroiled in a protracted custody dispute and other legal disputes.

In a recent court filing, Angelina claimed that Brad had been physically abusive prior to the infamous 2016 plane incident that sparked an FBI investigation.

The complaint claimed that Angelina was abused along with their kids on the journey, which is why she left the 'Troy' actor immediately.

Given the circumstances, the kids and Angelina have formed a close-knit group of seven. The 'Salt' actress called them "the closest people to me in my life, and they’re my close friends. We had to heal. There are things we needed to heal from."

Although Shiloh has walked red carpets with her famous mother several times, neither she nor her siblings have done the same for Brad.

An insider informed the Daily Mail: "This is the result of textbook parental alienation, and it is a great sadness in his life."

"There have been years and years of (Angelina) telling and retelling the same lies about (Brad) and the reality is that she has alienated the kids, and the reality is that it is upsetting to Brad. He cares about all of them. It is devastating," they added.
