LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Brad Pitt reportedly believes the Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler paid an eight-figure sum amounting to almost $64 million to Angelina Jolie to buy her stake in their French winery estate.

As the ‘Moneyball’ star continues to fight in the court to undo Jolie’s sale, he demands that Shefler, owner of the Russian vodka giant Stoli, not be allowed to escape the ongoing lawsuit over the French estate named Chateau Miraval, per RadarOnline.

More on ongoing court case

Pitt has been fighting two lawsuits in the courts of Luxembourg and California over the French estate where he claimed he should be granted the controlling interest in Chateau Miraval after Angelina Jolie sold her stake to Shefler-owned Stoli.

Pitt and Jolie had purchased the property when they were together, intending to turn the vineyard into a winery business and pass it down to their children.

Pitt claimed it was his incessant efforts and money that turned the business profitable. After the couple divorced in 2016, Angelina Jolie started talking about selling her stake in the business in 2021.

As the ‘Maleficent’ actress wanted herself out of the business, Pitt agreed either to buy her stake or find a third party.

While Pitt’s business associates drafted a deal to overtake her stake for $54 million, the proposition fell apart after Jolie accused Pitt of domestic violence.

Simultaneously, Jolie claimed she worked out a deal with Shelfer to buy her portion of the vineyard. However, Pitt said Jolie had previously agreed not to sell her portion without the ‘Troy’ actor’s approval.

Jolie, nevertheless, denied the claim.

Pitt accused Jolie of selling her stake to Shelfer, who was alleged by the Oscar-winning actor to have ties to Putin’s inner circle.

Pitt claimed that Jolie made the business transaction to tarnish the business’ brand. Shelfer, nevertheless, claimed he opposes Putin and has reportedly been exiled from Russia for decades.

Claiming Shelfer and his business associates attempted a “hostile” takeover of Miraval, Pitt filed a lawsuit where he demanded the court to void Jolie’s sale to Stoli.

Following this, Shelfer and his company filed a lawsuit against Pitt claiming he was wasting Miraval’s assets on vanity projects. In the lawsuit, they added Pitt has blocked them from accessing information about the company, subsequently blocking them from taking decision about the company.

Of late, Shelfer also demanded that all claims against him be dismissed saying that he has no ties to California where Pitt filed the lawsuit.

Claiming that he had limited contact with Jolie’s team during the sale, Shelfer said he should not have to defend himself in California.

In the recent motion, Pitt argued against Shelfer’s company.

He claimed, “Document after document produced in this action demonstrates that Defendant Yuri Shefler personally orchestrated the unlawful California transaction at the heart of this case.”

The motion claimed that Shelfer first reached out to him in the aftermath of the couple’s split as he made an unsolicited bid for Miraval.

Pitt claimed, “That overture—which involved a bizarre offer directly from Shefler to sell one of his jets to Pitt on “very attractive terms”—went nowhere.”

The motion further read, “But Jolie took up Stoli’s renewed outreach and began secretly negotiating a sale of her stake in Miraval,” claiming Shelfer does have ties to California.

Pitt further revealed in the lawsuit that Jolie sold her stake for $64 million. The lawsuit added, “Vindictively, Jolie never gave Pitt a chance to match the higher offer, which he has a contractual right to do through Mondo Bongo and which he would have done.”

It continued, “Pitt only learned of the deal with Shefler’s Stoli Group, which purported to invite strangers into his family home and business, when it was announced publicly.”

While the star demanded Shelfer to answer to the suit, a judgment is awaited.
