DUBLIN, IRELAND: Brenda Fricker, the Oscar-winning actor who became a familiar face to American audiences as the homeless woman in 'Home Alone 2: Lost in New York', has died at 81.
Fricker died Thursday night, July 16, in Dublin following a period of ill health.
Her agent Phil Belfield confirmed her passing in a statement to the BBC and said: “We will never see her like again and the world is lesser for the lack of her.”
'Home Alone 2' became Brenda Fricker's iconic role
For many viewers, Fricker's most recognizable role came in the 1992 Christmas classic 'Home Alone 2', where she played a homeless woman who forms an unexpected friendship with Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, in New York's Central Park.
But the role was just one chapter in a career that earned Fricker one of the biggest honors in Hollywood.
Fricker earned the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 1989 film 'My Left Foot'.
Playing Bridget Fagan Brown, the determined mother of Christy Brown, she became the first Irish woman to win an Oscar.

In a 2020 appearance on 'The Ray D’Arcy Show', Fricker spoke candidly about the emotional challenges she faced during the holiday season, revealing that living alone made Christmas a particularly difficult time of year for her.
She admitted that while many associate the holidays with warmth and celebration, her experience was often marked by isolation and quiet reflection.
