'That was not me': Britney Spears deletes post blasting Halsey over ‘Lucky’ video, calls it ‘fake news’
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Britney Spears fired off a storm of criticism at Halsey (who uses she/they pronouns) for seemingly portraying her as a "superficial pop star with no heart or concern at all" in their latest Spears-inspired 'Lucky' music video - only to swiftly retract her words.
Spears posted about her feelings and later claimed that she had not written it after Halsey dropped their new music video with several fans speculating it was a misunderstanding between the two music sensations.
Britney Spears feels 'harassed and violated' by Halsey's music video
Taking to X, Britney Spears, 42, wrote on the evening of July 26, “For obvious reasons I’m very upset about the Halsey video. I feel harassed, violated and bullied.”
“I didn’t know an artist like her and someone I looked up to and admired would illustrate me in such an ignorant way by tailoring me as a superficial pop star with no heart or concern at all,” she continued.
Spears mentioned, "I have my own health problems which is why I took down my Ig account yesterday."
Despite this, she intends to return to the platform to demonstrate her genuine concern and connection with her fans, as per Page Six.
“I’m speaking with my lawyers today to see what can be done on this matter,” she concluded. “It feels illegal and downright cruel.”
But in a swift twist, mere moments after her fiery post went live, Spears pulled it down and insisted it wasn’t her words.
“Fake news!!! That was not me on my phone!!!” she declared on X. “I love Halsey and that’s why I deleted it 🌹!!!”

Halsey wasted no time in replying on X, simply stating, “and I love Britney!!!!”
and I love Britney!!!! I always have and always will 💕 you were the first person who ever made me realize what it means to feel inspired. And you continue to inspire me everyday. https://t.co/MRCc4WofdJ

Halsey recently revealed their health struggles with their diagnosis of Lupus and a rare T-cell disorder, sharing photos of intravenous treatment.
In the song Halsey sings about shaving their head multiple times, initially by choice and later due to illness, recounting, “I left the doctor’s office full of tears/ Became a single mom at my premiere/ And I told everybody I was fine for a whole damn year/ And that’s the biggest lie of my career."
Halsey channels Britney Spears in crystal outfit in 'Toxic' video
In the music video under discussion, 29-year-old Halsey takes on a pop star persona that strikingly resembles Britney Spears, including a sparkling crystal outfit similar to Spears' famous 'Toxic' costume.
Halsey's character is a dazzling superstar, inspiring young fans to aspire to her level of fame.
However, behind the glitz and glam, the character contends with tumultuous relationships and concealed health issues—reflecting the real-life struggles Halsey has faced.
It's uncertain which segment of the video Spears found problematic.
Halsey mentioned in a previous tweet that Spears had personally given her permission to sample the song 'Lucky'.
I wrote her the longest, sappiest, stan letter of all time and she was soooo nice https://t.co/AYyy73pxKl

Fans speculate misunderstanding between Halsey and Britney Spears
Numerous fans speculated that Britney Spears might not have been informed about the 'Closer' singer's health problems, leading to a misunderstanding of the message.
“Did she watch the video? It’s about how Halsey and the little girl are not so different even though she’s a star,” one X user wrote. “Does she mean the ‘shaved my hair four times line’? That was about Halsey shaving her hair because of cancer but maybe Britney thought it was a dig at her.”

“I can see why Britney would see it as a “dig” or feel exploited. There are definitely references to Britney and her likeness but I don’t think @halsey
had ill intent. This misunderstanding could’ve been avoided if the MV had been explained/shown to her. Someone better FIX THIS,” another added.

“That’s just a huge misunderstanding because the music video is about halsey herself and her fight against leukemia,” one user added.
