Britney Spears fears 'losing touch forever' with sons as she tries building bridges amid legal battle
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Britney Spears is reportedly trying in private to mend her ties with her two sons after she failed to make him pay for the legal cost of fighting the conservatorship.
Nearly three years after the pop singer's conservatorship expired in 2021, the father and daughter reportedly settled for an unidentified amount, per CNN and The New York Times.
Now, sources informed The US Sun that following a "perplexing and stress-filled few weeks," Britney has been making an effort to "build bridges" with her boys—Sean Preston and Jayden James.
Britney Spears fears that she will never see her sons again
The boys of Kevin Federline and Britney Spears—Jayden James, 17, and Sean Preston, 18—are all grown up.
The singer's relationship with her teenage boys appears to have remained wrecked considering her estrangement from them. Britney's two sons did not reconnect with their mother before their move to Hawaii, per TMZ.
After a difficult few years, the singer now reportedly worries that she "may lose touch forever with the boys," who are currently living happily with dad Kevin in Hawaii.
The source continued: "But now that possibility has come to an end, she has been reflecting on rebuilding her family, or at least trying. Her relationship with her sons has not been non-existent in the last couple of years."
"But she wants to try again and get them back in her life. There is a sense that after feeling let down by her father she doesn’t want her boys to ever feel that way with her."
"She has reached out to spend some time with them over there and move forward. They have kept their distance from her, preferring to be with Kevin and Victoria, but Britney is open to making peace with everyone and building into a modern-day family," the insider added.
The insider continued, "In recent weeks she [Britney] has spoken more about making sure the boys know how much ‘mom misses them'."
Kevin and his wife Victoria Prince got married in 2013.
"Being a mother was the most important thing for Britney for a long time, and so many issues have got in the way of that for her over the years," said a second friend of Britney's.
The friend added: "Deep in her heart she always wanted to be close to the boys and does have serious long-term trauma from being separated from them."
Britney's ex Kevin revealed that her two boys had not seen their mother in months
In an interview from 2022, Britney's ex-husband Kevin revealed that her two sons had not seen their mother in months and that they had chosen not to attend her wedding to Sam Asghari, with whom she has since split up.
The mother-son relationship became more tense when Britney's boys urged their mother to stop stripping off and dancing in videos that were uploaded on Instagram.
In response, Britney declared she was "saddened" by their remarks and maintained that she "gave them everything."
As previously reported by TMZ, Kevin claimed he wouldn't push for a reunion and was giving Sean and Jayden the freedom to decide whether to meet their mother.
According to reports, Kevin was relieved that his ex-wife Britney let them move out without a fight and chose not to contest the relocation in court.
Though Britney earlier stated on Instagram that her sons rarely, if ever, visited, she was able to see them two to three days a week before the major relocation.
Kevin's current wife Victoria made the decision to relocate to Hawaii after receiving a job offer on the islands, per The US Sun.
Britney is also reported to feel "numb" since she gave up trying to get her father, Jamie Spears, to answer to the public for controlling her life for more than ten years.
The source added: "Britney has seen her world turned on its head in recent weeks, because her hopes were dashed of fighting her father."
"Britney has felt like her voice has been taken away again because she thought that a trial against her dad could show the world how she felt mistreated and cheated," the insider said.
