GEORGETOWN, DELAWARE: Conservative firebrand Candace Owens is refusing to back down after being hit with a 22-count defamation lawsuit filed by French President Emmanuel Macron and first lady Brigitte Macron.

The suit, lodged in a Delaware court on Wednesday, July 23, accuses Owens of waging a sustained campaign of misinformation, primarily that Macron was born male.

But rather than softening her rhetoric under the weight of international legal action, Owens has escalated her response, turning the case into a political spectacle that now threatens to draw in Donald Trump and heighten tensions between France and the American far-right.

Candace Owens mocks lawsuit, warns court battle

Candace Owens used her podcast to mock the lawsuit and proclaim that she’s ready to take the fight to court, with Trump potentially testifying.

On her 'Candace' podcast, Owens dismissed the lawsuit as a “catastrophic PR strategy” and accused the Macrons of “trying to groom the courtrooms” in pursuit of pretrial advantage. She teased the discovery phase, asserting, “The discovery alone will be out of this world. We would be required to depose Donald Trump.”

Continuing her provocations, she addressed Brigitte Macron directly, “You are officially a very goofy man…you definitely have balls.”

Owens urged the first lady to “fire everyone around you who said this was a very good idea for you to be the first sitting first lady … to file a lawsuit against a journalist in another country.” And, boldly, she vowed, “On behalf of the entire world, I will see you in court.”

Owens reiterated her June revelations about a late-February call in which she claims Trump told her that Macron personally asked him to urge her to drop the claims.

According to Owens, Trump said, “I saw her up‑close, she looks like a woman to me,” but she responded, “Respectfully Mr President, it’s not my fault that he (President Macron) married someone with a penis.”

That explosive exchange reinforces her decision to escalate, not retreat, under legal pressure.

Candace Owens accused of fueling false claims

French President Emmanuel Macron and first lady Brigitte Macron have launched a broad legal assault against Candace Owens, accusing her of orchestrating a relentless, profit-driven campaign spreading falsehoods about Brigitte Macron’s identity.

The 22-count suit alleges Owens knowingly amplified conspiracy theories alleging Brigitte was born male and is concealing her past, fueling a damaging narrative that the Macrons call “baseless, dehumanizing, and deeply harmful.”

The lawsuit details how Owens aggressively promoted the conspiracy through multiple platforms, including an eight-part podcast series, 'Becoming Brigitte' and provocative YouTube videos like “Is France’s First Lady a Man?” These efforts were amplified via paid social media placements and viral marketing, expanding the reach internationally.

Owens also sold merchandise tied to the theory, turning falsehoods into a lucrative brand. Despite formal retraction requests supported by official birth records, Owens escalated her rhetoric, incorporating unfounded claims of espionage and government manipulation based on discredited French fringe sources.

Macrons highlight reputational damage from Candace Owens’ campaign

The Macrons emphasize the severe personal toll caused by Candace Owens’ persistent attacks.

According to the complaint, Brigitte Macron has faced ongoing harassment and invasive speculation at home and abroad, while the couple has suffered reputational harm and lost business opportunities.

The lawsuit describes the campaign as “invasive, dehumanizing, and deeply unjust,” noting that the couple must live with widespread public belief in these “vile fabrications.”

The president himself has publicly acknowledged the emotional toll of such disinformation, calling it “the worst part of being president.”
