LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: JoJo Siwa has backtracked from her earlier statement on wanting to create a ‘gay pop’ genre.

The talented singer last week told Billboard, "When I first signed with Columbia, I said I wanted to start a new genre of music. They said, 'What do you mean?' and I said, 'It's called 'gay pop'. It's like K-pop but it's gay pop."

What did JoJo Siwa say after facing backlash over 'gay pop' comment?

Now, the ‘Hold the Drama’ crooner admitted that there have been many other LGBTQ+ icons before her. Siwa clarified that she only wants to spread more awareness about this genre of music.

Siwa added that she doesn’t think any less of queer legends, such as Elton John, Freddie Mercury, and Madonna.

"I definitely am not the inventor of gay pop, for sure not. But I do want to be a piece in making it bigger than it already is. I want to bring more attention to it," Siwa told TMZ.

Her ‘gay pop’ genre remark came amid the release of her ‘Karma’ single, which many considered to be graphic.

Amid the backlash, Siwa shared that she finds comfort in social media, and prefers Snapchat over others.

The star said, “Snapchat is the least toxic app out there right now," noting that it's very community-based and family-based.

A user poked fun at Siwa’s looks, “Can't believe y'all let a 36 yr old play a teen that long.”
