LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Charli XCX's new album 'Brat' has been praised by critics, but it has also reignited rumors of a feud with former tourmate Taylor Swift, as reported by Mirror.

Despite having opened for Swift on her Reputation tour, Charli's new song 'Sympathy Is A Knife' features lyrics that many believe are a direct jab at Swift.

The contentious lyrics, “Don’t wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend’s show, Fingers crossed behind my back, I hope they break up quick,” have led fans to speculate that Charli is referencing Swift’s past relationship with The 1975's lead singer, Matty Healy.

Charli's fiance, George Daniel, is also a member of The 1975, adding fuel to the fire.

Charli has addressed the album, stating that it contains only one true diss track, 'Von Dutch,' but the speculation about 'Sympathy Is A Knife' remains.

The tension between the two pop stars has spilled over to their fanbases. Charli's fans have expressed their anger at Swift after Charli’s album debuted at number two, following the release of a new version of Swift’s album, 'The Tortured Poets Department'.

Many took to social media to accuse Swift of strategically releasing multiple versions of her album to dominate the charts, labeling her as a "greedy capitalist" and criticizing her for allegedly undercutting other female artists.

One fan wrote, "Charli deserved the Number 1 spot. Brat is universally acclaimed. Charli is at the peak of her creativity & finally getting the flowers she’s long overdue. Taylor’s obsession with money/chart positions & her pattern of undercutting other women in the industry is embarrassing."

Another fan echoed this sentiment, stating, "Taylor Swift is greedy and the farthest thing from a feminist, at least Charli has talent."

This feud has roots going back to 2019, when Charli, after opening for Swift, made a comment that angered Swift’s fans. In an interview with Pitchfork, Charli expressed her gratitude for the opportunity but remarked that performing felt like she was "waving to five-year-olds."

This comment did not sit well with Swifties, who felt that Charli was disrespecting Swift's fanbase.

Following the backlash, Charli clarified her comments on Instagram, stating that she meant no disrespect and was simply adjusting to a new type of audience.

She explained, “Leading up to that tour I’d been playing a tonne of 18+ club shows and so to be on stage in front of all ages was new to me and made me approach my performance with a whole new kind of energy.”
