Cher objects to Elijah Blue Allman’s wife seeking guardianship in new court filing
MALIBU, CALIFORNIA: Cher is continuing her legal fight over the guardianship of her son, Elijah Blue Allman, amid his ongoing legal and mental health troubles, filing a supplemental brief in a Los Angeles court on Aug. 28.
The filing opposes the potential appointment of her daughter-in-law, Marieangela King-Allman, as guardian and claims that King-Allman is seeking involvement for fame and financial gain.
Cher opposes daughter-in-law’s guardianship bid
According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE and filed by Cher’s attorney, Justin Gold, the New Hampshire State Hospital and the rest of the family remain opposed to King-Allman serving as guardian.
The filing cites her estrangement from Elijah, the couple’s previously pending divorce, and what it describes as her refusal and failure to assist Elijah and Kayti Pease while he was struggling before his arrest in New Hampshire.
The family also believes King-Allman is attempting to return to Elijah’s life in pursuit of money and fame.
Allman is currently in custody at a psychiatric hospital in New Hampshire while facing multiple criminal charges in two separate cases.
According to her filing, the New Hampshire State Hospital initiated a guardianship for Allman on July 7. Cher sought to have his half-brothers, Chaz Bono and Devon Allman, appointed, with Allman being the son of late rocker Gregg Allman.
The filing acknowledged a dispute over who should serve as guardian and noted that a September 1 hearing was scheduled to determine whether King-Allman could or should serve.
Allman did not appear at the September 1 hearing, prompting the judge to postpone the matter until December 1.
King-Allman had requested to be appointed conservator in an August 18 filing.
However, Cher’s brief claimed that King-Allman had been in the process of divorcing Allman for many months and that the couple were estranged when Cher first began her conservatorship proceedings.

The filing also stated that Allman’s condition was known to King-Allman because Kayti Pease had repeatedly requested that she help provide care for him.
Cher’s filing claimed that King-Allman did not assist despite being Allman’s spouse and now viewed the pending conservatorship as a financial opportunity to control his income.
Allman and King-Allman married in 2013. King-Allman first filed for divorce in 2021, but the filing was dismissed in February 2024. She filed again in April 2025, and that case was dismissed in June 2026.
Cher’s filing argued that whether Allman ultimately chooses to be in a relationship with King-Allman should be a decision he makes independently.
However, it claimed that because of King-Allman’s behavior and alleged indifference toward his health and living situation over the prior year, she should not be considered a viable candidate for a court-appointed fiduciary role.
In her own August filing, King-Allman argued that Allman had long been estranged from his relatives.
She claimed his relatives had repeatedly attempted to impose a conservatorship without her knowledge.
King-Allman also wrote that she strongly believed Allman needed a robust, long-term treatment plan to address his issues.
She argued that appointing a conservator selected by his mother, from whom he had been estranged for years, and removing his autonomy against his wishes could demoralize him and jeopardize his recovery.
