Cher allegedly stopped financially supporting son Elijah Blue Allman amid conservatorship feud
MALIBU, CALIFORNIA: Singer and actress Cher is once again at the center of a legal and family dispute involving her son, Elijah Blue Allman, who claimed in newly filed court documents that she stopped financially supporting him several years ago amid their ongoing conservatorship battle.
The filing was submitted as part of Allman’s request to reduce the spousal support payments he currently makes to his estranged wife, Marieangela King, as renewed legal proceedings continue to draw attention to his mounting financial instability, legal troubles, and declining health.
Elijah Blue Allman claims Cher stopped supporting him in 2021
Court documents filed in the Superior Court of Los Angeles on Tuesday, May 5, revealed that Allman alleged his mother stopped providing him with recurring financial support in August 2021. According to the filing, the 49-year-old musician said he now only receives $10,000 per month from the trust left by his late father, Gregg Allman.
After taxes, Allman reportedly takes home approximately $6,790 monthly. He submitted the filing while seeking a reduction in the spousal support payments he currently owes King, requesting that the monthly amount be lowered from $6,500 to $1,651.
The filing also stated that King “made no efforts to become self-supporting” after the couple separated in 2021. The couple married in 2013, and although Allman initially filed for divorce in 2021, he later sought to dismiss the petition in January 2024.
King and Allman first met overseas while King was living in Germany and writing music under Universal Music Berlin alongside her siblings in their band, 'King Family.' The pair were introduced through a mutual friend on a blind date, though their relationship did not begin with an immediate connection.
Despite their contrasting backgrounds, she reflected on the bond they eventually developed, saying, "We found a simpatico, and I had never met anyone who could relate to my story, and I don't think he has ever met anyone who could relate to his story.”
King ultimately filed for divorce in April 2025. “It’s not something I believe in. It’s not something I wanted,” she said of the filing. “But that day… that day I had no other option.” The next hearing in the matter is scheduled for July 17.
Cher renews conservatorship fight as Elijah Blue Allman faces legal troubles
The financial dispute surfaced alongside Cher’s ongoing attempts to place Allman under a conservatorship. In April 2026, Cher again filed for temporary conservatorship over her son’s estate, claiming he was suffering from severe mental health and addiction issues.
The filing came after Allman’s recent arrests in New Hampshire, where he was charged with two counts of criminal mischief, one count of burglary, and one count of breach of bail in connection with an alleged March 1 break-in.
According to a police report, authorities stated that he did not have permission to be at the property and forcibly entered the home. Cher alleged that her son was unable to properly manage his finances and was vulnerable to fraud and undue influence.
According to court filings referenced in reports, Cher claimed he “has no concept of money” and spends funds immediately on “expensive hotels and limousine transportation.” She further alleged that he owed significant debts, including unpaid taxes totaling around $200,000 and missed spousal support payments.
One filing also claimed Allman once owed money to an individual connected to illegal substances and had to borrow funds from a friend to avoid being harmed. A judge denied Cher’s latest conservatorship request on April 24 without prejudice, meaning she may file again in the future.
During the hearing, Elijah appeared remotely from a psychiatric hospital in New Hampshire, where he is reportedly being held while undergoing treatment intended to restore his competency amid ongoing criminal cases.
