"You could tell by the reaction," she explained when the host asked how she could tell.
Stern followed up with the exclamation, "Who would ever leave you? Men are fools. You have to kick them out."
However, Cher noted that it was not always the case, saying, "Few men, few men... but a couple. Look, I was madly in love with Val Kilmer and he left."
"Why would he leave you? He is having fabulous sex with one of the most beautiful women in the world. What the f**k is the problem with this guy?" asked Stern.
"Because sometimes you're only meant to stay with someone so long," replied Cher. "And Val was like, he was really young."
According to the Daily Mail, Cher and Kilmer have an age gap of 13 years, which raised many eyebrows in Hollywood when they were dating, between 1982 and 1984.
Relationship between Cher and Val Kilmer
Cher has spoken publicly about her relationship with Val Kilmer, stating in 2018, "When we kissed, I thought my head would shoot right off my body."
"I met him at a birthday party my friend was having for me," she shared in 2021. "(The friend) said, 'I invited this guy and I think either you or my friend who's an editor will like him.'"
"We became friends because we laughed at the same things constantly. He would sleep over and it was just a friendship (at first.) That took a long time. Well, I guess not really a long time," recalled the singer, who admitted that their age gap "was a bigger deal back then."
Cher remains fond of Val Kilmer
Val Kilmer made his Hollywood debut with 'Top Secret' in 1984, the year that they broke up. His following films, 'Real Genius' in 1985 and 'Top Gun' in 1986 cemented his footing in the industry.
Cher stated that she had seen the 2021 documentary on Kilmer's life, 'Val', and wrote a letter to Kilmer afterward.
"I said, 'Valus Maximus, I'm sorry if I did anything to piss you off or hurt your feelings. I love you and your documentary was all things. I love the things that pissed me off, the things that made me hysterical, amazed, hurt, astonished, etc. You are brave and beyond brilliant. Ethel,'" she noted, sharing their nicknames for each other.
"He's a true artist and Renaissance man. He was sick and it didn't stop him. He created an extension of his art and his life," she added of Kilmer.
"Look what he created and even the things he let you see that nobody would let you see. Even the worst things, he wanted to be in the documentary because he wanted to show you who he was," she concluded.
