Cher's son Chaz Bono opts not to invite singer to wedding amid strained relationship, claims source
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Chaz Bono, Cher's first-born child, is reportedly distancing himself from the iconic singer, considering not inviting her to his upcoming wedding.
According to reports, insiders close to the 'Dancing With the Stars' alum have indicated that both Chaz and his fiancee, Shara Blue Mathes, are "removing" Cher from their guest list entirely, aiming for a more subdued ceremony without the singer's famed theatrics.
Chaz Bono reportedly opts to exclude Cher from wedding guest list
The lovebirds want a "simple ceremony with none of Cher's theatrics," sources told In Touch Weekly.
Sources shared that the decision stems from an estranged relationship between Chaz and his mother, which became apparent after he came out as gay and underwent a transition in 2008.
"When Chaz went through the transition, that was difficult for me," she told the Los Angeles Times in October of her child shared with Sonny Bono. "It shouldn't have been because, you know, I've had gay friends forever. I just met some beautiful trans chicks and we have an affinity. Now I'm totally fine."
"But it's hard to lose one child to get a new one, especially so late," the Moonstruck star said.
Cher's response to Chaz's transition was initially fraught with difficulty, as she admitted in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. She expressed the challenges of accepting the change, particularly as she felt she had "lost one child to get a new one, especially so late."
While Cher acknowledged that she could have handled the situation better, she also highlighted her efforts to navigate the circumstances as best as she could, albeit with some regrets.
This latest development in Cher's family drama adds to ongoing conservatorship proceedings concerning her son Elijah Blue Allman. Recently, a judge denied Cher's request for a temporary emergency conservatorship, indicating a continued legal battle within the family.
Cher faces legal battle over son's conservatorship
Cher, the iconic singer and actress, recently encountered a legal setback in her efforts to become the sole conservator of her son Elijah Blue Allman's estate.
The Burlesque star sought to assume control, citing concerns about Allman's ability to manage his financial resources due to ongoing mental health and substance abuse issues. However, her petition was rejected by the court without prejudice due to insufficient evidence.
The legal saga surrounding Allman's conservatorship has been tumultuous. Cher, expressing concerns about her son's well-being, requested permission to serve him with conservatorship papers via alternative methods after being unable to locate him.
She cited worries that any funds distributed to Allman from his trust would be immediately spent on drugs.
In response, Allman acknowledged his past financial irresponsibility but asserted that he had been clean and sober for over 90 days and was fully capable of managing his finances. Despite these claims, Cher remains steadfast in her concerns for her son's welfare.
Reports suggest that Cher has made every effort to be a loving and caring parent, even from a distance. However, she faces estrangement from her children, a situation described as devastating by insiders. Despite her efforts, neither of her children appears to want any involvement with her.
Cher's troubles extend beyond legal battles, as she recently faced allegations of involvement in an attempted intervention regarding Allman's substance abuse issues.
Allman's estranged wife, Marieangela King, claimed in divorce documents that Cher had hired four men to kidnap him from a New York City hotel room. Cher vehemently denied these allegations, emphasizing her role as a mother striving to help her children, no matter the circumstances.
