WASHINGTON, DC: Former MSNBC host Chris Matthews declared that little is known about President Joe Biden following his debate performance as he is in a very tight circle.

Matthews' remarks came during an appearance on MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' with Joe Scarborough, where he discussed Biden's highly anticipated ABC prime-time interview with George Stephanopoulos.

Chris Matthews says Joe Biden's condition is kept 'completely secret' by personal aids

Chris Matthews said Joe Biden's condition is being kept off limits by his 'tight' circle.

"There is a huge distinction between the people who are on the true inside — the true inside — with the candidate or a president, and everybody else in the world," Matthews said, reported The Hill.

"You cannot break through. They are really tight. This crowd around the president, and maybe two, three personal aides, even within that area of just very, very small people who are keeping it completely secret," he added.

Chris Matthews says Joe Biden's tight circle may have negatively impacted his public persona

Chris Matthews, according to the station, encouraged the president to "be confident" during the interview but also suggested that Joe Biden's tight circle of staff may have negatively impacted his public persona.

"We sit here and don't know what condition he is in, what episodes have come on, how often the episodes have occurred since maybe the Super Bowl, when they turned down that tremendous opportunity to speak to the country," he said.

"This president is very protected," Matthews added.

The declaration comes amid the report that Biden's family, including his son Hunter Biden, are gathered around him to offer support and advice.

According to a New York Times report, Hunter Biden was one of the strongest voices encouraging his father to stay in the presidential race.

"Hunter Biden wants Americans to see the version of his father that he knows — scrappy and in command of the facts — rather than the stumbling, aging president Americans saw on Thursday night," the publication reported.

Internet reactions contradict Chris Matthews' views by saying Joe Biden's condition was apparent

Netizens disagreed with Chris Matthews' assessment, with one user writing, "Really? How did the rest of us know his condition for years? When we spoke up, Chris and the media painted us as conspiracy theorists and rejected our claims. So, here we are."

Another user wrote, "The guy needs to resign immediately and drop out of the race. He isn't running the country, he isn't running anything."

One corrected, "He's hidden from public view.. not protected."

Another bluntly stated, "Everyone knows his condition. It’s just not something you talk about with polite company. HE IS LOSING IT."

One user slammed Matthews, saying, "Shut up. This irresponsible opining is why you are no longer on the air!"
