Christopher Abbott makes rare comment on fatherhood after welcoming first child with Aubrey Plaza
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Christopher Abbott has made a rare comment about fatherhood months after welcoming his first child with girlfriend, Aubrey Plaza.
The 40-year-old actor and Plaza reportedly became parents in late July and the news came to light in August after Plaza was spotted holding her newborn while out in New York City.
Christopher Abbott says his biggest accomplishment is becoming a father
During the Thursday, October 1, episode of the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast, Abbott acknowledged his recent achievements, including getting nominated for a Tony Award, being cast as Professor X in ‘X-Men,’ celebrating his 40th birthday earlier this year, becoming a father, and watching the New York Knicks win the 2026 NBA championship.
“When you really reflect on it like that, I got to put dad first,” he shared, before funnily noting, “Then Knicks. Just because I’ve been waiting. I’ve been a Knicks fan my whole life.”
Aubrey Plaza and Christopher Abbott are yet to reveal baby’s name and gender
Over a month ago, it was confirmed that Plaza, 42, and Abbott are parents now as the actress was seen with her newborn on August 9. At the time, ‘The White Lotus’ star had come out to support her boyfriend at his final Broadway performance in ‘Death of a Salesman’ in New York City.
However, the new parents are yet to reveal name and gender of their baby.
In April, it was first reported that Plaza was pregnant with her first child. A tipster told People at the time, “It was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year. They feel very blessed.”
Aubrey Plaza said she always wanted to become a mother
Later, ‘The To Do List’ actress herself confirmed the big news as she appeared on a special bonus episode of the ‘Smartless’ podcast.
Speaking with hosts Will Arnett, Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes, she said, “Well, there’s a baby inside of me. No, I said there is a baby inside of me right now.”
Further sharing her excitement, she stated, “I am. Yeah. I’ve always wanted, I’ve always wanted, I’ve always wanted to see what that’s all about, you know? It just seems so interesting, that whole thing.”
When Plaza was asked where she’ll be raising her child, she replied, “It’s not totally thought through, but East Coast for sure.”
Aubrey Plaza on estranged husband Jeff Baena’s death
Before Abbott, the comedian was married to Jeff Baena. But they separated in 2024 and Baena died a year later. He was 47.
Plaza opened up about the tragedy in August last year. She reportedly shared, “Sometimes I just want to dive into it and just like be in it. Then sometimes I just look at it, and sometimes I try to get away from it. But it's always there.”
‘The Little Hours’ star further added at the time that she felt “really grateful to be moving through the world,” asserting, “I think I'm OK, but it's like a daily struggle, obviously.”
