Months before the death of her husband, Jeff Baena, Aubrey Plaza starred in a deeply emotional film about the loss of a loved one.

The 40-year-old actress appeared in the coming-of-age comedy ‘My Old Ass’, where she played the 39-year-old version of Elliott, an 18-year-old character portrayed by Maisy Stella, as per Radar Online.

A particular scene from the film, in which Plaza’s character mourns the death of her lover, "Chad," has gone viral on TikTok in the wake of Baena’s passing. Viewers have drawn poignant comparisons between the scene and Plaza’s real-life grief, sharing comments on how closely it mirrors her off-screen loss.

In a 2019 interview with PEOPLE, Plaza opened up about her relationship with Baena, sharing their dynamic: “I think that when you’re with someone that is in your field, they understand what you’re dealing with on a deeper level. So obviously you are able to support each other and really understand kind of the journey that we’re both on."

"I think that one of the great things about our careers is that we are forced to be independent, take little breaks, go off and do our things and come back. So it’s kind of fun," she added.

She emphasized, “Nothing is ever the same. You don’t want to spend too much time a part. But I think that there’s a way that it can work and there’s a balance in that.”
