‘Oppenheimer’ star Cillian Murphy recently bagged the Best Actor award at the Golden Globes. During his acceptance speech, the actor addressed his wife and children and said, “To my family, I'm the luckiest man and I love you.”
Also, during the ‘Armchair Expert’ podcast, the 47-year-old film producer revealed that his children had spent their early years in London after being born there. But a few years back, they have shifted to Dublin, Ireland.
He shared, “We were in London for 14 years, both our kids were born there. We only came back to Dublin in 2015.”
“It's kind of an Irish story, you know, to move away, do your thing, and then come home. That seems to be a common narrative for Irish people,” the actor continued.
Cillian Murphy does not see himself moving to the US
Cillian noted, “We wanted the kids to be Irish, and they were sort of at that age where they were preteens and they had very posh English accents and I wasn’t appreciating that too much. Our parents are a certain age and it was just a nice time to come home.”
The ‘28 Days Later’ actor also mentioned he’s not planning to move to Los Angeles. He added, “I love visiting and I love the food and I do love the weather. I don’t know, I just feel European, I just feel Irish. I’d feel like a bit of an interloper if I lived in California, I couldn’t envisage living there permanently.”
Cillian Murphy calls ‘Barbenheimer’s success ‘wonderful’
More recently, Cillian discussed the “Barbenheimer” phenomenon.
Referring to ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Barbie’ which were released at the same time, he told the BBC's culture and media editor Katie Razzall, “I think they're both great films which couldn't be more different. And I think it was wonderful it wasn't any amazingly designed marketing strategy by the studio.”
“It was people, you know, it was the internet and people who made up this Barbenheimer thing and it, yeah, it was a wonderful moment for cinema,” Cillian stated.
