'Couldn’t be more excited': Kevin Costner beams with pride as he praises his son Hayes’ big-screen debut

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kevin Costner is over the moon about his son Hayes’ first acting role in his father’s upcoming western epic 'Horizon: An American Saga.'

The 15-year-old can be seen in the trailer for the two-part film which Costner, 69, shared on his Instagram account on Sunday, March 3.

 He captioned the post, "When it’s your movie you get to pick who you hang out with. Really proud of my son, Hayes, for making his acting debut in #HorizonAmericanSaga."

"And thanks to all of you for the love you’ve shown our trailer this week. I couldn’t be more excited to share this with you," he added.

In the trailer, Hayes portrays a young version of his father's character who is caught in a violent attack on his home during the Civil War.

He bravely helps his mother (Sienna Miller) and sister hide in a secret bunker, before joining his father to fight back.

Costner, who co-wrote, directed, and starred in 'Horizon: An American Saga', told People in November 2022 that he cast his son on purpose, so they could spend more time together.

He said Hayes, who was 13 at the time, is “very good” in the film. “Hayes plays the namesake character that I actually play in the movie. He’s 13 years old and the screenplay’s been around longer than that,” the Oscar-winning actor told the publication.

"I kind of did it on purpose, so he could be hanging out with me. I’m like any other parent — I’m trying to figure out, like, ‘This is really neat. You should come be with me,'" he added.

Hayes is the middle child of Costner and his ex-wife Christine Baumgartner with whom he also shares son Cayden, 16, and daughter Grace, 13.

Costner has four other children from previous relationships, daughters Annie and Lily and sons Joe and Liam.

Fans of the 'Dances with Wolves' star were quick to congratulate him and his son on their collaboration and express their excitement for the film.

“How lovely to see your son Hayes acting in your movie. Just like you I’m sure he will make a mark in future. Waiting eagerly to see the movie,” one fan commented on Instagram.

'Horizon: An American Saga' Chapter 1 will hit theaters on June 28

'Horizon: An American Saga' Chapter 1 will hit theaters on June 28, followed by Chapter 2 on August 16.

The film, according to the synopsis, “explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won — and lost — through the blood, sweat and tears of many.”

“Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America,” the synopsis added.
