Cyndi Lauper sparks debate as she claims Donald Trump wasn't 'good boss' on 'The Apprentice'
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Cyndi Lauper, the iconic singer known for hits like 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun,' recently shared her candid thoughts on Donald Trump’s leadership during her time on 'The Celebrity Apprentice.'
Speaking on CNN, Lauper, 71, did not mince words when reflecting on her experience working with Trump, who was 78 at the time of her comments. When asked about Trump’s demeanor on the reality show, Lauper expressed her disappointment.
Cyndi Lauper lambasts Donald Trump's leadership during 'The Celebrity Apprentice'
"Well doing that show enabled us to do the 'Give a D**k' campaign. I was disappointed when the big thing was learning leadership and learning how to be a good boss," she said.
Lauper went on to highlight a discrepancy she observed: "Working on The Apprentice, there was a very large LGBTQ+ community working for him and helping him be successful. Then he came out with all the anti-LGBTQ+ stuff and I was surprised because I didn't think that's what he was trying to show us in how to be a good boss. That ain't a good boss."
Lauper’s comments come amid a broader critique of Trump’s behavior during his tenure on the show, a critique that has been documented in a new book, 'Apprentice in Wonderland: How Donald Trump and Mark Burnett Took America Through the Looking Glass.'
The book, released on June 18, offers an unflattering portrayal of Trump’s behavior behind the scenes. According to the book, Trump was notorious for his temperamental outbursts and erratic behavior on set.
"As time went on, he was finicky about having to wait at all on the set of 'The Apprentice.' If he arrived and the cameras weren’t ready to shoot his scene, he’d storm off and return hours later, just to prove a point," an excerpt reads.
The book also details the lengths to which the show's staff went to accommodate Trump’s unpredictable nature, including instructing the transportation team to trail him in real time to track his whereabouts.
The chaotic environment extended beyond logistical issues. Trump reportedly made inappropriate comments about female contestants, including Jennifer Murphy. Randal Pinkett, a fellow contestant, recounted these moments in the book.
"I felt it was inappropriate, and not knowing Donald as well as I do now, it was in some ways shocking. This was a business show about business professionals. There’s no place for those conversations in a business context. It was unacceptable," Pinkett shared.
