SUSSEX, ENGLAND: Daniel Radcliffe and his 'Harry Potter' co-stars paid heartfelt tributes to Dame Maggie Smith, honoring her for her portrayal of Professor Minerva McGonagall in the beloved film series.

Smith, known for her role as the sharp yet caring Hogwarts professor, died at the age of 89, as announced by her sons Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin on September 27.

The actors, who worked alongside Smith in the 'Harry Potter' films, have shared memories of the actress, celebrating her kindness and humor.

He also recalled his first encounter with Smith when he was just nine years old. He remembered their first encounter saying, she "was incredibly kind to me..."

“The first time I met Maggie Smith I was 9 years old and we were reading through scenes for 'David Copperfield' which was my first job. I knew virtually nothing about her other than that my parents were awestruck at the fact that I would be working with her," Radcliffe told Variety.

He remembered nervously asking Smith, "Would you like me to call you Dame?” to which she humorously replied, “Don’t be ridiculous!”

Radcliffe said Smith “was a fierce intellect, a gloriously sharp tongue, could intimidate and charm in the same instant and was, as everyone will tell you, extremely funny."

“The word legend is overused but if it applies to anyone in our industry then it applies to her. Thank you Maggie,” Radcliffe said.

Bonnie Wright and Devon Murray reflect on Dame Maggie Smith’s caring nature

Bonnie Wright, known for playing Ginny Weasley, shared an emotional tribute on Instagram, fondly remembering Dame Maggie Smith as the "dearly loved and revered head of Gryffindor house."

Devon Murray, who portrayed Seamus Finnigan, also took to Instagram to honor Smith, describing her as "most intimidating person I’ve ever met but once cracked she was the kindest, most caring and loving Lady I’ve ever met."

Afshan Azad and others share final thoughts on Dame Maggie Smith’s legacy

Other Harry Potter cast members joined in, sharing their tributes for Dame Maggie Smith.

Josh Herdman, who played Gregory Goyle, posted a simple "RIP" on his Instagram Stories.

Afshan Azad, who portrayed Padma Patil, described Smith as a "legend" and "icon." She wrote, "An absolute honor to have shared the same room as you let alone screen. There'll be no other.”

Maggie Smith began her role as Professor McGonagall in 2001's 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone' and remained with the series until its conclusion in 2011.

Her family described her as "intensely private person." According to People, her two sons and five loving grandchildren are "devastated by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother."
