Daniel Stern reveals why he knows 'Home Alone' script 'inside and out' despite watching it only once
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Actor Daniel Stern recently opened up about his experience with the 1990 Christmas classic 'Home Alone', revealing he has only watched the film in its entirety once during its 1990 premiere.
Despite its lasting popularity, Stern said he has little desire to rewatch his work and instead prefers focusing on his current passions, including farming and sculpting.
Daniel Stern says 'Home Alone' is creatively finished in his mind
Daniel Stern, who portrayed Marv, one-half of the bumbling Wet Bandits, revealed that he has not revisited the entire film since its premiere.
"I've seen clips. I've seen it pop up. Or like, they have highlights when you turn on the TV, I turn on the TV and there I am falling on the toys or something," he said in an interview with People.
"But yeah, I mean, what, am I going to hunker down and watch me?" he continued, adding, "I love the movie. It's tremendous. I know the script inside and out."
The actor added that he prefers to focus on new creative projects.
"Once I'm done with them, they're not dead ... Creatively, they're done," Stern said.
"I need to go to the next one. My head is totally forward on the next thing I'm making," referring to his sculpture making.
He added, "And by the time the movie comes out, that was a year ago, and it is great, but I don't want to go back. I did it. I shot it. I know it. The script was good. That scene went that way. And I'll see it once and go, yeah, that was good... I just go forward."
Joe Pesci once bit Macaulay Culkin's finger too hard
Daniel Stern also recalled a surprising moment involving co-stars Joe Pesci and Macaulay Culkin during filming in an interview with Entertainment Tonight on Saturday.
While shooting a scene where Pesci’s character, Harry, threatens to bite Kevin’s fingers, Pesci accidentally bit Macaulay Culkin harder than intended.
"Joe is … he’s wonderful, I love him, he’s a dear friend, but he’s a scary dude, and he was carrying it all," Stern said.
"We were trying in the first movie to actually be scary to start with, and then you realize we’re idiots. But there was a fear factor that set up the drama of the thing," he added.
Reflecting on the incident, Stern said, "Yeah, I think he did bite it as he was biting his finger, and then he bit it—like, ‘Oh c**p, I didn’t really mean to.’"
"Joe was like, ‘Ah, sorry I did that.’ But that’s the only time you might see Pesci break," he said.
Macaulay Culkin recalls being scared by Joe Pesci
The comments came after Macaulay Culkin recalled the incident in an interview with The New York Times, acknowledging that Joe Pesci’s commitment to his character made the scene particularly intense.
"He was trying to scare me," Culkin said, describing Pesci’s method acting approach.
Culkin added, "He was like, ‘I want to be menacing to this kid.’" However, Pesci may have taken the role a bit too far while rehearsing the scene.
"I have a scar," Culkin said. "I saw his face—and I’ve never, ever seen Joe Pesci actually scared because he’s like, ‘I just bit a kid!’" he recalled.
