CHICAGO, ILLINOIS:  Macaulay Culkin, the iconic star of 'Home Alone', almost became the owner of the very house where he played the mischievous Kevin McCallister. The actor recently shared his exciting plans for the property which he nearly bought when it hit the market for $5.25 million in May.

The legendary 'Home Alone' house, built in 1921, features five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and a sprawling 9,126 square-foot layout. It boasts a sunroom, a vast sport court in the basement, a fully-equipped gym, and even a state-of-the-art movie theater—making it a truly unique piece of real estate.

What plans did Macaulay Culkin have for 'Home Alone' house?

During a December Q&A tour at local ‘Home Alone’ screenings across the United States, Macaulay Culkin discussed his plans for the iconic house. The events were sold out, with phones and video recording strictly prohibited. 

According to The New York Times, Culkin shared, "I had half a mind to buy it—just for giggles" during a screening at Chicago's Rosemont Theatre in Illinois. While he clarified that he wouldn't actually move into the house, Culkin, 44, expressed his desire to turn the property—located in the Chicago suburb of Winnetka—into a "movie fun house," where visitors could sled down the staircase, just like in the famous scene from the film.

Culkin also explained why he hadn't purchased the house yet, saying, "I got kids. I'm a busy man." It's worth noting that Culkin shares two sons with fiancee Brenda Song - three-year-old Dakota and a two-year-old child whose name has not been revealed. 

During the Rosemont event, Culkin reflected on his relationship with 'Home Alone', calling it a "curse and a blessing" during his childhood. However, as a parent now, his perspective has shifted. He shared, "I look at the movie differently now because of that. I watch it through a different lens. I watch it with them, and they have no idea who they’re sitting next to."
