Macaulay Culkin shares sweet conversation with 3-year-old son who believes he's Kevin from 'Home Alone'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Macaulay Culkin, best known for his iconic role in Christmas classic 'Home Alone', has revealed that his eldest son, Dakota, believes he is actually Kevin, the character which Macaulay played in the movie when he was just 11 years old.
Notably, Macaulay shared that his two sons with fiancee Brenda Song, 3-year-old Dakota and 2-year-old toddler, are huge fans of the film that made him famous.
However, the actor quickly corrected his son, laughing, "That was me!" This revelation comes shortly after Culkin's brother, Kieran, who also starred in 'Home Alone', disclosed that he doesn’t let his own children watch the movie due to its scary scenes.
Macaulay Culkin reveals adorable reason why his son believes 'he is Kevin'
In an interview with E!, 'Home Alone' star Macaulay Culkin shared that his eldest son, Dakota, believes "he is Kevin" from the beloved holiday film. Culkin recalled a conversation with Dakota, asking, “Do you remember going down that down the stairs on the sled?' He's like, ‘Mmhmm, yep. Sure do.'”
The actor continued, asking, “Do you remember when he had yellow hair?” and received another affirming response, "‘Uh-huh, yep."
Culkin then joked that his son's belief extended so far that Dakota even claimed to have “fought the burglars” himself. Laughing, Macaulay teased him, saying, “You’re a lying liar who lies,” before adding, “That was me!”
He jokingly explained why the children might not recognize him in the movie, saying, "I'm a lot taller now. I have a lot more body hair." He then added, "But yeah, that was actually me."
Meanwhile, Culkin’s brother Kieran, who also starred in 'Home Alone', revealed that he hasn’t allowed his children to watch the movie yet.
He explained, “For the 3-year-old, there’s the tarantula [and] there’s the guy at the end who said, 'I’m gonna bite off all your fingers.' That’s scary for a 3-year-old." He added, “We think they might be ready for Home Alone this year. If not, next year.”
Macaulay Culkin shares how he now embraces ‘Home Alone’ as a holiday tradition
In the same interview, Macaulay Culkin shared how he has come to embrace 'Home Alone' as a Christmas tradition.
He said, "'I'm kind of embracing it and, at the same time, taking the piss out of it, too." He went on to emphasize, "It's very rare when you have something that kind of encompasses an important day, and I'm a part of that. It's more fun to embrace it than to fight it."
This mindset has led him to partner with Uber Eats for their latest campaign, featuring Uber Carolers in select cities on December 7.
The campaign includes a new ad that humorously references the movie. Culkin explained, "We didn't want to do something that was too on the nose when it came to referencing 'Home Alone'. It was kind of just like a little wink and nods. I just thought it was kind of nice and simple and fun." Laughing, he added, "They paid me in carolers. Yes, I think I have it in my contract that they have to send carolers to my house."
'Home Alone' wasn't Culkin's first acting role. He made his debut at age 5 as the Halloween Kid in 1985 TV movie 'The Midnight Hour' that aired on ABC.
