Mandy Moore's harrowing escape from the flames

Mandy Moore received an urgent call from her brother-in-law at 6.45 pm, warning of the fire’s approach.

As winds roared at 60 mph and ash fell, they swiftly gathered their children, pets, and fled their newly-constructed home.

“All the while, tossing and turning with a stomach-churning anxiety I’ve never experienced before, both boys passed out between us in bed. Lou slept on the floor in a travel crib, and the dog curled up protectively by the door,” she recalled.

Mandy Moore says her home's interiors were almost entirely destroyed

By February 11, Mandy Moore confirmed on Instagram that while the structure remained, the home's interiors were almost entirely destroyed.

She described the devastation, saying, “Pretty much everything will have to be disposed of…maybe even the walls.”

The fire struck just weeks before they were to complete a four-year renovation.

"By the next morning, we’d had 2 neighbors confirm that our house was indeed gone. We held each other, processed the unimaginable,” Moore shared.

“It wasn’t for another few hours that we would find out that much of our property had burned down, but our home itself was miraculously still standing,” she revealed, according to People.

Mandy Moore opens up on loss, grief, and redefining home

Mandy Moore recounted her anguish upon learning their neighborhood was reduced to ruins, reflecting on what ‘home’ now meant to her.

Despite their loss, she expressed gratitude for her family’s safety but admitted to feeling deeply broken in the comment section.

She asked for "help and guidance on how to process this trauma because my brain and heart are so deeply broken."

“I say all of this because I’m struggling. Yes we are exceedingly lucky to technically still have the structure of a home. But also… do we still have a home? I think my definition is in flux. The physical space? No," she noted.

The actress shared that home is wherever her family is, “but having a sanctuary and safe space to feel settled really goes a long way too.”

Moore closed her heartfelt message by honoring neighbors who lost everything, emphasizing shared sorrow and resilience.

She vowed that Altadena, though entirely changed, would remain their dream home and sought support as her family began the long process of rebuilding.
