LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a recent development shedding light on the federal raids carried out on Sean "Diddy" Combs's residences, a retired FBI agent has suggested a possible connection to the arrest of a suspected accomplice in the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur.

Phil Carson, former head of the Los Angeles FBI office, indicated that information obtained from the arrest of Duane "Keefe D" Davis, allegedly involved in Shakur's 1996 killing, might have prompted the search warrants executed on Combs's properties in Los Angeles and Florida.

Davis, who faced charges last year in connection with Shakur's murder, is thought to have linked Combs to the incident, asserting that it was orchestrated by the music mogul, an allegation strongly refuted by Combs.

Carson, known for delving into hip-hop's underworld during the 1990s, underscored the leverage authorities may now wield over Davis, suggesting that he could potentially cooperate given the looming prospect of a life sentence.

In an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com, Carson underscored the significance of Davis's arrest, suggesting that pressure from law enforcement could compel him to divulge new information about Combs's involvement.

"It's not like the olden days of the Italian mafia where everybody kept their mouth shut," the ex-Bureau agent said.

"As soon as somebody has handcuffs on them, they'll sell out their own mom now."

"Keefe's arrested, and that's a game-changer because they have something over him. And that's when he may start spilling his guts. He's an OG from out here," added Carson, referring to the shorthand term for "original gangster."

"He's rubbed shoulders with a lot of the big shots. Every one of those guys has a story to tell about how the streets were run back then. So who's to say Keefe didn't start throwing stuff out there that he hasn't talked about before, to potentially save his a**?"

"That's not to say it's the reason federal law enforcement executed these warrants on Diddy's house," he cautioned. "But it would be interesting to know what the evidence is, and where that evidence came from, that they put in these affidavits to get both these search warrants. It's got to be something of substance."

Davis's participation in the 1996 murder, as outlined in a recorded admission to LAPD detectives as part of a temporary immunity agreement in 2008, implicated Combs in a scheme to eliminate Death Row Records head Suge Knight.

As per Davis's account, Combs purportedly provided him with a significant amount of money to engineer Knight's downfall, an assertion that resonated widely within the music industry.

"He took me downstairs and he's like, 'Man, I wanna get rid of them dudes, man.' I was like, 'We'll wipe their a** out quick, man. It's nothing,'" Davis told police in a recorded confession reported by LA Weekly in 2011.

Davis recalled a discussion with Combs in which the latter conveyed his wish to "eliminate" Knight. Davis's cooperation, alongside his purported role in Shakur's fatal shooting on September 7, 1996, caused significant shockwaves within the hip-hop community.

Allegedly, Davis's nephew, Orlando Anderson, executed the assault, resulting in Shakur's death and Knight's injury.

Despite Davis's cooperation and subsequent disclosures outside of the immunity deal, including in a memoir, authorities refrained from directly linking Shakur's murder investigation to the recent raids on Combs's Holmby Hills and Miami residences.

Instead, reports suggest that the raids were part of a separate sex trafficking inquiry, further complicating the narrative surrounding Combs and his legal entanglements.
