Demi Moore's fans get emotional as she recalls being called 'popcorn actress' in Golden Globes speech
BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA: At the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, Demi Moore delivered one of the most heartfelt and moving speeches of the night after winning the award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture: Musical or Comedy for her role in 'The Substance.'
The competition was fierce, with fellow nominees like Mikey Madison, Cynthia Erivo, Karla Sofia Gascon, and Zendaya, making Moore’s victory all the more significant.
Demi Moore’s Golden Globes win marks first-ever award in her acting career
And while Sunday, January 5, night's win marked Demi Moore's first Golden Globes, it also marked her first award as an actress—ever, Parade reported. Moore’s victory was a long-awaited milestone in her career, which had spanned decades but had never before yielded such recognition.

"I really wasn't expecting that. I'm just in shock right now," Moore said during her emotional acceptance speech. "I've been doing this for a long time, over 45 years now and this is the first time ever I've won anything as an actor. I'm so humbled and so grateful," she added.
Moore went on to share a story about a producer who told her 30 years ago that she was a "popcorn actress". This comment led her to believe that she wasn't deserving of major awards or roles in "movies that were successful and made a lot of money," a belief that she carried with her for many years.
“Thirty years ago, I had a producer tell me that I was a popcorn actress, and at that time, I made that mean that this [award] wasn’t something that I was allowed to have,” Moore added.
Holding back tears, she went on to say, "I believed that. And that corroded me over time to the point where I thought a few years ago that maybe this was it. Maybe I was complete. Maybe I've done what I'm supposed to do."
Reflecting on being at a "low point" when the "bold, courageous, out-of-the-box" script for 'The Substance' came her way, Moore described it as a "magical" moment from the universe, reassuring her that her journey was far from over.
"One thing that I think this movie is imparting is in those moments when we don’t think we’re smart enough, or pretty enough, or skinny enough, or successful enough, or basically just not enough," Moore continued.
She further said, "I had a woman say to me, 'Just know, you will never be enough, but you can know the value of your worth if you just put down the measuring stick'. And so today I celebrate this as a marker of my wholeness and of the love that is driving me. And for the gift of doing something I love and being reminded that I do belong. Thank you so much.”
