WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Adam Schiff (D-California) admitted to doubting President Joe Biden's ability to defeat former president Donald Trump in the upcoming election on the Sunday, July 7, episode of 'Meet the Press'.

The Congressman became the latest addition to the growing number of Democrats who have expressed similar concerns and even asked the President to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race after his abysmal performance in the first presidential debate, hosted in Atlanta by CNN, on June 27.

Biden spoke in an indiscernibly low voice on the debate stage, at times mumbled incoherently and lost his train of thought. It prompted many in the media as well as in the Democratic Party to admit that the President's cognitive ability is a serious weakness that could cost him re-election.

Running for the Senate himself, Adam Schiff told NBC News anchor Kristen Welker that Joe Biden's age is a major factor weighing down the Democrats in their race to secure the White House.

"But the performance on the debate stage I think rightfully raised questions among the American people about whether the president has the vigor to defeat Donald Trump," he shared.

"Based on what you saw, do you think he is still the strongest candidate to beat former President Trump?" asked Welker, leading to him replying, "Ultimately, this is a decision President Biden will have to make and President Biden alone."

"But I would say this, he has been an extraordinary president. He has created millions and millions of jobs. He has expanded and strengthened our NATO alliances. He has brought back manufacturing in this country. He has brought about the most aggressive attack on climate change. He has done more in one term than most presidents ever do no matter how many terms they get," he continued.

Schiff noted that "there’s only one reason" the race between Biden and Trump "is close and that’s the president’s age."

"What I would advise the president is, seek out the opinions of people you trust," he shared.

"He’s obviously talked to his family about this and that’s important, but he should seek out people with some distance and objectivity. He should seek out pollsters who are not his own pollsters. He should take a moment to make the best-informed judgment and if the judgment is run, then run hard and beat that SOB," he added.

When pressed again by Welker on whether he felt the President could defeat his predecessor, the lawmaker reiterated, "I think if the president takes the time to consult people and has an open mind about this, he will do what Joe Biden always does which is he will make the best decision."

Adam Schiff slammed as he voices concerns about Joe Biden's ability to defeat Donald Trump

Netizens trolled the Congressman while responding to his interview on X.

"This man’s words mean nothing no matter what the topic," wrote a social media user.

"Here's another liar and should have never gotten a government paycheck. Washington just can't get enough of these liars," expressed another.

"I guess he can’t be trusted by anyone!" exclaimed one person.

"Schiff doubting #Biden makes wonder if I'm wrong about Biden. Schiff has never been on the correct side before or been remotely truthful," noted another person.

"Schiff goes which ever way the wind is blowing and is a idiot," one individual said.
