WASHINGTON, DC: Media personalities mocked President Joe Biden on social media for his uncertainty about whether he had watched the presidential debate, following his underwhelming performance against presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump at CNN's Atlanta studio on June 27.

The incumbent made this remark during his first major television interview since the event, speaking with ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos on Friday, July 5.

During the conversation, Stephanopoulos pressed Biden about his performance on stage against his political rival, asking, "Did you ever watch the debate afterward?"

Biden's response came after a brief pause, as he said, "I don't think I did, no."

According to Fox News, the response went viral on social media platforms, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), as many criticized the President for not confidently answering the simple question.

Joe Biden takes responsibility for his performance on debate night

Joe Biden stumbled incoherently and lost his train of thought on stage during the debate, prompting increasing voices within the Democratic party and its supporters to call for him to step out of the race.

When Stephanopoulos asked Biden of his performance, the President replied, "It was a bad episode. No indication of a serious condition. I was exhausted. I didn't listen to my instincts in terms of preparing. It was a bad night."

He did not clarify what was going through his head at the time but shared, "The whole way I prepared – nobody's fault. Mine. Nobody's fault but mine. I prepared what I usually would do sitting down, as I did coming back with foreign leaders or the National Security Council, for explicit detail. And I realized partway through that, you know, that — I could quote it."

"The New York Times had me down at ten points before the debate. Nine now, or whatever the hell it is. The fact of the matter is, that when I looked at, is that, he also lied 28 times. I couldn't, I mean, the way the debate ran, was not – my fault. No one else's fault. No one else's fault," Biden added.

The President claimed to be unwell during the event, stating, "I was feeling terrible. Matter of fact, the docs with me, I asked if they did a Covid test because they were trying to figure out what was wrong. They did a test to see whether or not I had some infection, you know, a virus. I didn't. Just had a really bad cold."

Joe Biden gets called out on X

Media personalities commented on Joe Biden's uncertainty about whether he had watched the debate later, as the clip from the Stephanopoulos interview went viral.

"Biden looks terrible and sounds terrible in the clip @ABC showed at 630… Oof. He doesn’t even remember if he watched the debate later. My god," tweeted CNN contributor Scott Jennings.

"Biden still looked bad and sounded confused in the excerpt ABC aired. Maybe not quite as bad as 8 days ago, but definitely nothing there that says ‘I got this,’" wrote journalist Josh Barro.

"The debate was a week ago and he can't remember if he watched a replay," mocked New York Post columnist Miranda Devine.

"If Biden hasn't seen the debate himself, how can he know exactly what other Dems and voters are seeing?" inquired CBS News reporter Kathryn Watson.

"It was pretty memorable for those who watched," noted FOX 11 LA anchor Elex Michaelson.
