Deputies gift signed handcuffs to Donald Trump
Donald Trump received the gift at Mar-a-Lago following Routh's arrest and remarked, "That’s good-looking stuff right there. That’s good-looking human beings."
Donald Trump shook hands with Sheriff William Snyder and the deputies involved in the arrest. The officers signed the handcuffs used during the arrest and gifted them to Trump, who then invited the deputies for lunch at Mar-a-Lago, per WPTV.
Snyder informed WPTV that communication with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office was crucial when they worked to find the suspect.
The deputies caught Routh on Interstate 95 after he fled Trump International Golf Club on Sunday. Investigators said he was armed with an SKS-style rifle after initially stating the firearm was in the style of an AK-47.
Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw stated that a female witness took a picture of the vehicle and license plate, which played a crucial role in apprehending Routh. A license plate reader system later located Routh’s black Nissan SUV near the exit for Palm City on I-95, according to The Independent.
Sheriff William Snyder says he is proud of his crew
Sheriff William Snyder told WPTV on Tuesday, September 17, "I could not be more proud of my crew. I talked to the president today, and he told me specifically that he can rest easier knowing that someone who was about to kill him, or try to kill him, was in custody. To me, that’s as rewarding as anything I’ve ever done."
Deputies noted that Routh remained "very compliant and calm" during his arrest, even with numerous officers surrounding him. He has been charged with two firearm-related offenses: possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
Moreover, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis stated during a press conference on Tuesday that Routh will most probably face charges on the state level as well.
