Dick Van Dyke jokes about being ‘old enough to be Joe Biden’s father’ as he approaches 99th birthday
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Veteran actor Dick Van Dyke is gearing up to celebrate his 99th birthday on December 13. Renowned for his roles in classics like 'Mary Poppins' and 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang', Dyke made an appearance on the December 5, Thursday, episode of 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!'
Van Dyke exchanged laughs with host Jimmy Kimmel and Coldplay's lead singer Chris Martin, as they delved into a discussion about his remarkable career spanning nearly eight decades, and his recent accomplishments.
During the lighthearted segment, Van Dyke humorously remarked he's old enough to be President Joe Biden's father.

The crowd and Kimmel erupted in laughter as Van Dyke responded in his characteristic humorous style. “I’m old enough to be Joe Biden’s father,” he quipped about the president, who is 82 years old.
“I experience dementia every once in a while,” Van Dyke said with a laugh, adding, “Like, right now, I think I’m on the 'Jimmy Kimmel Show'.” Kimmel reassured him, joking, “Happens to me too."
Kimmel shared a story of when he saw Van Dyke earlier that day. “I asked how he was doing, and he told me, ‘Very old'," said Kimmel.
In September, Dick Van Dyke received an award for Outstanding Variety Special at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards for his 2023 birthday special titled 'Dick Van Dyke: 98 Years of Magic'.
“I’ve been in the business 75 years. I can’t believe that I’m still here and performing. I’m looking for work if anybody has,” Van Dyke said while reflecting on his career.
Last year, he told People he preferred a low-key celebration for his 98th birthday, surrounded by family and grandchildren. “My wife brings me a cup of coffee in the morning. I get it in bed. I get treated like a king around here,” he shared.
Van Dyke has four children, Christian, 74, Barry, 73, Stacy, 68, and Carrie, 62, from his late ex-wife, Margie Willett. He is currently married to Arlene Silver, 53, who is younger than him by 46 years.
